Your hires DVD, should be connected to a HDMI entry, and you should select that with the remote control. HiRes won't be HiRes via any TV channel.

Can't play some dvd video. Dvd hired in shop is OK, but other recorded dvd and clean dvd is rejected as no dvd or can't read.

The store hired DVD's are molded DVD's and would work well on any player. The DVD's written on a writer should be first written at the slowest speed you can as DVD's written at higher speeds cannot be read by a lot of players. Are you maintaining the same structure of the DVD while writing? Do a DVD to DVD copy if you can and not after copying to Hard Disk. Some software have an option for setting the DVD compatibility such as in NERO Burning Rom DVD high compatibility mode in writer settings.

Try using a cleaning disk for the laser eye. This is a special dvd with a brush grafted on it to clean off thedoirt on the laser. Hired DVD;s are often covered in greasy finger marks and other debris which gets transferred to the iris as the disk spins. this eventually clogs the laser and it can no longer do a load and often reports no disk.

I get "cannot play disc" command with purchased dvd movies on home dvd player altho they play on pc. This problem just started i was able to play any dvd on home unit before

Try using an iris cleaner on the unit. It is a disk with a brush grafted onto it. Put it in and run for 6 seconds or so and the laser eye will be cleaned. That should correct the problem. Many hired DVD''s have greasy finger marks on them and it is transgferred to the iris, eventually causing it not to be able to play the disk

Wont play dvd's says no disc

This is often due to "glug" from hired DVD's obtain a DVD cleaner disk to remove the dirt from the laser eye.
it is a DVD with a little brush on one of ts tracks that sweeps the eye of the laser. Cost about $20 but lasts for ages.

other than that is it a legal copy did you purchase it from a retail outlet if you did .. I would hire a copy of the same film from my local video store if it plays your disk is at fault if not you have a software read problem . In the event it did play take the dvd back to the shop you bought it from and see if there machines play it if theres do then it confirms a fault on your set ... hope this helps regards Vortash

This is 99% always the case when your dvd drive is going out. You can find a replacement on ebay for under $15. Video tutorials can be found on youtube just by typing "xbox 360 laser replacement" Replace the laser and you won't have this problem anymore.

'PLAYBACK PROHIBITED DUE TO AREA LIMITATIONS'

Check area code at your unit and usualy its printed at back side. If your unit belongs to code 1, it will play only region code 1 dvds and so on other codes.

Unlock region code information

I've only heard of some very specific DVD players that are easy to unlock. Hopefully someone has an answer for you! You could also either buy a region free DVD player or you can get software to play the disks back on your PC.
