Question about Toshiba Portege 2000 Notebook

2 Answers

N, H, T and Backspace keys suddenly not working.

I have a Toshiba Portege 2000 that was purchased used a couple of months ago. Everything was working great until today when a friend used it. Now, for some reason, the n,h,y and backspace keys do not work and neither she nor I know what was done to make this happen. Obviously, I'm using a different computer right now. If anyone knows how to correct this problem, I'd appreciate the input. Thanks.

It sounds like something was spilt onto the key board. When it dried out it caused the keys (the switch underneath the keys) to stick in the down position - hence no matter how often you press the keys they will not move the switch.

You may need to get this cleaned (if possible) or have the keyboard repaired.

Good luck.

You can try blowing it out with compressed air, but you will probably need to remove the keyboard to make sure nothing was spilled or stuck in there. You should be able to remove the keyboard by removing the battery, then removing the keyboard securing strip, and then you should be able to take a screwdriver and pry the keyboard up and out.

Need a toshiba portege R500 vista recovery disk

Toshiba Factory Reset
a couple of ways to do that 1) if you have the recovery CDs supplied with the PC - then you can use these - put the CD into the drive and when it boots follow the instructions 2) If you have a recovery partition on the laptop - have a read here to see if you have one http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/outFrm.jsp?ofId=AskIris&searchString=recovery+to+factory 3) This link shows you how to use the partition http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletinDetail.jsp?soid=2291088&pf=true basically as the PC boots TAP F8 key - from the menu that appears choose "repair your computer"
If that option is NOT available then you will need to Order CDs from Toshiba - http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/Recovery-media/m-p/9148#U9148

Mouse problem? m200

THe Problemis that the little membrane pad for the mouse is no making full contact. What you need to do, is open the case, and look where the mouse pad is, and see if it can be forced closer to the protective layer. If this does not solve the problem, you may have to send the laptop back to the manufacturer for them to fix.
