Question about Coleman Powermate Powermate 5000W Generator
Hi, well whenever any electronic Componentry is left un-powered, this can actually harm it. You see Capacitors, especially Electrolytic Capacitors, can & do, "dry out" and go into a high resistance state. They have a wet electrolyte inside them.
This is why, emergency equipment that is operated sporadically, is powered up and used, at least weekly, to prevent this from occurring. This also helps the Capacitors to "Re-form" & "Heal" as it's called. Also why we have a Stand by setting which keeps the power flowing through the circuit, but NOT actually powered ON.
OK, what to do, well the short answer is to replace the electronics module in the Generator. If this is NOT practicable, then replace ALL Electrolytic Capacitors, with same or better. This may return the unit to functionality.
Then of course you must attend to actually getting the motor to work. Once that's sorted out, you can at least troubleshoot the Electronic's side of the generator. help link below.
You need to obtain a service manual or workshop manual for your unit. Contact them at the link below and ask them to supply you with a shop, service manual.
