My Windows 7 cannot recognize my Sata/usb connector

USB hard drive is a portable external storage device that works just like a conventional hard drive. The device is simply plugged into a USB port on your computer as you would connect a flash drive. Unlike a flash drive, however, a USB hard drive can store a much larger amount of data. If your computer will not recognize your USB hard drive, you can try troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem.

Plug one end of the USB cable into the port on your hard drive and plug the other end into the USB port of your computer. Ensure that both ends of the cable are connected securely. Open "My Computer" (Windows XP) or "Computer" (Windows Vista/7). The USB device should be listed as "removable disk" once it is plugged into the computer. If it is not listed among the available drives on your computer, proceed to the next step. Ensure that the data cable is working properly. Try another USB cable if you have one available. Disconnect all other USB devices from the computer as they may interfere with the operating system detecting the external hard drive. Reboot the computer if the USB hard drive is still not recognized. Plug the USB cable into another USB port and check to see if the device is detected. If you are using a USB hub, remove the device and plug the external hard drive directly into a USB port. If the computer still fails to recognize the device, the external hard drive itself may be experiencing a hardware problem. Check the status of the hard drive in the "Device Manager" window. Under Windows XP, right click "My Computer" and select "Device Manager." For Windows Vista and Windows 7, click the "Windows" button in the lower left corner of the screen, then type "Computer Management" in the search bar and press "Enter." Select "Device Manager" in the "Computer Management" window. In the Device Manager window, click the "+" sign that appears beside "Disk Drives." If the external drive is not listed, click "Other Devices" in the Device Manager window and see if an "Unknown Device" appears. The external hard drive may have been detected but the device is not working properly. If it is still under warranty, take the device to the computer store where it was purchased to have it repaired or replaced. Hope this helps.

When turned on my green light flashes and computer does not recognize drive. I have used this on this computer before, but now is not responding.

if you are referring to a usb drive

click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X

you will need to update/reinstall drivers

right click to reinstall drivers

if you can see your usb drive but its not working

ports(com&lpt)right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts

or

if an internal drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs power and data to travel through every working device and continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

if an external usb drive

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
if this fails to fix the problem

you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap

hope this helps you

Sometimes, portable drives need more power than a USB port provides. If this is a laptop, be sure it is plugged in to power and not running off battery. Also, if you have TWO usb plugs on the end of the wire, plug them BOTH in. This provides the extra power needed.

Installing Hitachi Deskstar 40 GB drive as slave. Where do the connectors go. It says model IC35L060AVV207-0. Installing drive in Dell 4600

Look at the "connectors" end of the disk-drive.
There will be a set of thin pins for the "data" cable,
and thicker pins for the "power" connector,
and a smaller grid of small pins.
It's these pins that will be labelled/engraved on the casing:
MA(ster), SL(ave), C(able)S(elect).
Move the jumper to the "slave" setting.
Connect to the power connector.
Connect to a "data" cable.
When you add power to your computer, it should recognize the drive.

I have 500GB SimpleDrive USB 2.0 External Hard Drive, but currently i am facing some problems with it. When i plug it in to my computer, the computer says that unknown device. and it also does not come to...

I would unplug the external drive then shut down your computer. Plug the drive in(be sure the USB port is in good working order.)Turn the computer on. If it does not recognize the drive search online for tech support for that particular drive. Install any drivers or software. Be sure to find out if the drive is compatible with your operating software. Make sure all connectors are seating firmly and correctly. Make sure that everything is plugged in where it should be plugged in.

The light on my Seagate freeagent go flashes quickly when it is connected to my computer, indicating an error. What should i do?

I had similar problem recently. I noticed that I had forgotten to connect the power supply cable to the USB hub, to which my FreeAgent Go was connected to, after I had connected all my USB devices to my computer's USB ports (after I had disconnected everything from my computer in order to isolate another issue). Reconnecting the power supply cable immediately stopped the flashing light and windows recognized the drive.

Don't know how you are connecting yours to the computer i.e. via a USB hub or directly to the computer's USB port. Note that my FreeAgent Go drive requires both USB connectors connected to the computer (or to USB hub). Two USB connectors are on one end and the other end of the cable is connected to the drive/docking station.

Hope this helps.

Loose USB connector

USB connectors are too fragile for the constant in-out service they get. But I have solved the problem, at least for standard Type A. The plug end (its steel case slips into the port end's steel case) is functionally female; it accepts the 4-pin tongue of the port and squeezes it between the 4-pin tongue of the plug end and the steel case of the plug end. So when the plastic tongues wear down, the squeeze isn't tight enough. Solution: take a small vise-grips and make the plug's steel case a little thinner, like a weight on a grilled cheese sandwich you're making. Then when you plug it in, it will resist a bit and feel tighter. And it will now work!

Cruzer micro 4GB, unreadable in USB ports

sounds like your USB connector of the flash drive is damaged. Could be a loose/broken solder joint, or one of the pins on the USB connector could be damaged.

If it was my drive, I would open the case, solder a new connector on the board and backup the files.

PC won't recognize external usb HDD

You may not have installed the HDD correctly in the case... I had the same problem with my Thecus N1050 enclosure, the green power light on the enclosure would come on and the drive would spin up but my PC would not see the HDD!!??... I thought, becuase i could hear the drive spinning that i had it installed correctly but this wasn't the case, when i removed the enclosure again and FIRMLY pushed the HDD into the connector (all the way in) and connected it back up to my PC, it recognised it instantly. Hope this helps!
