I think I may have not stated the problem correctly. The problem is that I 'can not hear anything through the head set". The mike has not been the issue , as I do not use it routinely I have not tested the mic function. The only thing I can hear is a very slight 'static' type noise if I turn the speaker volumn up to max. The speakers work fine if there is nothing pluged into the head phone jack, and I have pluged in another basic head set ( wired unit ) to the jack and it works fine.

This is a normal reaction ..specially on a wireless device ..the idea is to lower the volume into the computer ..(to max 80%)..and also get into the volume control by double clicking on the speaker icon in the task bar ..and in here look at the mic volume
if there isnt any volume section for the mic..than click options ..than properties..and from the list tick the case for mic in ..and will list the volume for mic..
if the advanced function is on ..check into the advanced under the microphone it is started the mic boost function ..if it is ..and you want to keep it for a better mic reception ..than you have to put the mic on mute to eliminate the static noise..
THis should not mute it for good..but you can make a trial to be sure..
If the advance boost function is on ..and the muting puts it out for good..the choice is to get rid of the boost but usually works if you mute it ..cause only mutes the noise ..
let me know if you didn't understood anything ..

In this case you have to see if any of the devices are out of battery this case the emitter that plugs into the inlet ...
or ...just push those button to pair them again the first time you set them ...cause if it has sound on a regular headset it means that it is nothing wrong with the computer and it is a n issue of signal transmiting between the 2 check the batteries.first ...(they might not work if they are almost empty) ..and after that pair them again ..Usually the device shave some buttons that have to be pushed in for one to blink ..and in one to find the signal..I thing when the signal is located they change color or something like that ..Take a look in the manual for exact procedure..but it is something like in a wireless mouse....
anyway the only thing you can do to try and trouble shoot them ...cause if this isnt working ..I mean battery changing and re-pairing than it is something physical wrong and you will need to be seen by a repair-man ..

Basically you need to remove the right side padding and take out the 3 screws. This gets you access to the battery. The battery is a standard 3.6V lithium battery. Pretty much the same that is in most cell phones and many small toys. You can simply replace the battery with something like:

Or... here's what I did... add a lithium USB charger to the battery.
Now, if the battery dies I can plug it into USB and the phone will work while it charges.

Recently my headset does not turn on. I thought perhaps it needed to be charged, but even when plugged in none of the lights come on. After charging over night, it still did not turn on. It worked fine...

Have you seen this FIXYA Link?

Or could be your tiny "POWER" button-switch has gone bad"? Or perhaps a actual battery 'hard failure'?

Here is part of the text:

See the Link about Battery Replacement...

While you are in there try a Q-Tip with a tiny-tiny dab of contact cleaner sprayed on the Q-Tip... now try to apply some cleaner right to the Power Switch CONTACTS.

If you manually turn the headset off, make sure that it is by itself, no other phones in the area, no WiFi hotspots. Once this is done make sure that there is not a bluetooth already installed on the phone itself, if there is, delete it. Make sure that the headset has a full charge. Try the pairing again. If this still won't work, you can try Plantronics Tech service line 800-544-4660.

My Plantronics .Audio 995 wireless headphones refuse to charge with the cord provided me or any other one I substitute it for.

It sounds like the battery is dead in the headset. That headset has a non-replaceable battery. If the .Audio 995 is still under warranty you should have it replaced. I have included this link to the Plantronics .Audio 995 User's Guide.

Can one get the plantronics audio 995 USB headset (with microphone) to work with the PS3? The headset uses 2.4GHz, not bluetooth, so it's not a bluetooth pairing issue.

I believe it should work...

You may want to review this guide for connecting a bluetooth headset to a PS3:

My new headset

If you are using windows XP -- as unreal as it sounds just plug the device in and allow the Plut and Play installer to do it's thing -- it will appear as a device without a driver (in the device management list) but it will generally work. I have tried it on an HP machine and the control panel for sound and audio devices voice tab (as well as the audio tab) needs to be set to the plantronics device, too -- if you use the sound icon in the system tray the device seems to reset periodically to the one in the sound and audio control panel (just learned yesterday). The headset control on the wire -- the mute button (red illuminated button) has ceased to work for some time (possibly around the Service Pack 2 update) but the volume control does seem to work.
