Question about DeLonghi KBO3001 Cordless Electric Kettle

Open Question

My kettle was purchased from John Lewis Solihull on 03 June 2008. I thought I was buying a high quality product that would last being a cut above the rest. However, the kettle has now stopped working and I am not only very disappointed and displeased with the product, but have lost confidence in the DeLonghi brand. What advice can you give apart from 'go out and get a new one'. If I do that it certainly will not be a De Longhi product unless I have a satisfactory response to this enquiry. Can you recomend a local service engineer that could repair the kettle and how much do you think the repair would cost? I assume that the element requires replacing as I have checked all more obvious possible causes of failure. I paid 59.95 pounds for the kettle so I suspect that repair costs would make this a non-viable option. Incidentally, I have also got a DeLonghi toaster and hope that this will provide greater reliability than the kettle. I await your comments with interest. T.A.Workman

SOURCE: delonghi microvave replacement bulb, microwave only 6 months old

I got a Delongi Mic form argos too ,model ED8525S-SBD, sounds like a similar problem to what happened to it last year. Issue is that the bulb explodes (mainly due to the very strong spring on the door I think) leaving filament lieing on the metal chassis, hence the trip switch in your fuse box trips.
Didn't manage to find a replacement bulb but at least if you remove the old bits then it will get the machine back up and running and stop the trip tripping!
Take off the top by removing the 4or 5 screws around the outer edge at the back. The bulb sits directly behind the front panel inside its own metal chassis. There is a diamond shaped black plastic flange which the 2 power wires feed onto. 2 metal lugs hold this inside the chassis. straighten the lugs and the bulb holder pulls out. Even with the bulb removed I think there was a blown fuse and I had a further issue with the turntable not turning(this feeds off the same circuit as the bulb). So maybe Argos were right - the machine only cost £80 at the end of the day!

SOURCE: De Longhi DE220 De-Humidifier not collecting water

Hi there - you have to vacuum the filter several times. You can pull it out of the back left hand side of the unit. Vacuum it several times, and then start the unit on the lower fan setting, at a humidity level of around 60%. It will kick in after a bit, and then you can start adjusting the humidity level to where you would normally use it.

Sometimes - after you have vacuumed the filter, it still doesn't work. I used my fingers to pick lint off the filter, and ran a BIC safety razor over it as well, to try and get more out of the filter. You can also wash the filter in warm water, and leave it to dry over night. Don't put it back in until it's completely dry.

This will work! Cheers... E

SOURCE: Steam (smoking?) at switch on DeLonghi cordless electric kettle

Either the switch or the wire had a bit of a meltdown. The problem isn;t fixing it , it is getting the right switch. Delonchi is not that bad for support so they might be able to get the switch if you can replace it yourself. If you have to send it away then it may not be worth fixing it if you have to pay shipping etc.

I'd be tempted to bypass the switch and just unplug it like other kettles when it boils.

SOURCE: My kettle is broken -

I quite agree with you, if the element is not good, then it should be the switch or some sort of wire disconnection inside the kettle. There are some wires that goes from the switch to the heating element, this needs to be checked and observed.

Since you are able to detect the fault, then you can go ahead and get a tool. believe me, its going to be an easy thing to fix because, there are no panels whatsoever in the kettle. Its just going to be the element, switch, and wires that went from the element to the switch.

Before you get the tool, make sure you know the exact size/category of tool that will enable you successfully disassemble the kettle with damaging the screws or whatsoever that is holding it together.

I wish you the best of luck.

Where can I get new adapter?

The power adapter is most probably a standard type. On the radio, Check the voltage rating, the polarity. There are many adapters with multiple output voltage, multiple tips and reversible polarity.

My daughter bought me an Alessi cordless kettle for Christmas 2008. After 9 months it simply stopped heating water! The red light was lit on the base, so we knew the fuse hadn't gone, but it was completely...

Have you tried using it on a different socket outlet ? Possibly there is a problem with the wiring at this socket.
If the electricity supply "trips" at the consumer unit it is either the RCD which trips due to e.g. the base of the kettle becoming wet or alternatively the MCB tripping due to an overload which shouldn't happen unless there is a fault in the kettle.
When you got a replacement kettle presumably they replaced the base also?

Where can I get a new filter for my Domotec steam iron. I bought it from John Lewis but they no longer sell them and werent interested. Thank you

I've got one as well and I'm resigned to keep using it until it just clogs up. I use Britax filtered water in it. I had a Simac Stirella that just jammed open and the repair cost was more than the Domotec! Next time I'll buy a well-known make, but definitely not from John Lewis! Their after sales care on these products is appalling

I have a kenwood sjm350 and it keeps stopping during the boil cycle, have to remove from mains and boil again 3 or 4 times to get boiling water

Either the boil thermostat is faulty or the protective overheat cut-off is operating prematurely.

There is nothing you can do to fix either problem: it's a cheap kettle (no better or worse than average) and definitely not designed to be repaired. If the kettle is still under warranty you can get it repaired (in practice, Kenwood will usually just replace it). If the kettle is out of warranty then all you can do is to bin it and buy a replacement.

Note that if you're in the UK then you'll also have Sale of Goods Act protection; this means it's your right to demand that the retailer gives you a refund (full or partial, depending upon how long the product has lasted) or replacement as the goods have proven not to be of durable quality. The Act covers you for up to six years (five in Scotland), but allows for the fact that you can't expect a £32 kettle (current typical retail price) to last much more than perhaps a year to eighteen months. In reality, most UK retailers will try to insist you use the manufacturers warranty as it's usually more convenient for all concerned but you do have the legal right to insist that the retailer provides the remedy.

I hope that you've found my reply to be of use and in return I ask only that you return the favour by rating my answer.

Well said John. We have all purchased a cheap tool along the way only to find that it was truly made only to be sold, not to actually use. On the other hand, some quality tools are so very expensive. I have finally concluded that a tool I only use once in a blue moon is best to rent, not purchase outright.

Are you trying to figure the difference in days between these dates and one single date (Dec. 31, 2008 for example)?

Whatever you're trying to do, here is the formula, assuming you're starting in A1:
Put the first date in the format Day-Month-Year in numbers (Sept. 3 is 03-09-2008)
Then put your other date in B1, in Day-Mo-Yr format (31-12-2008 for Dec. 31, 2008)
In C1 put B1-A1 and that will give you the number of days between those two dates.
