SOURCE: Our refrigerator/freezer will stop working (not cool or freeze) then days later will begin to work again.

It's either the start device on the compressor or you have a bad compressor. You'll have to pull it away from the wall and take the bottom back panel off to check the compressor. It will likely be real hot to the touch from what you described happening. If there is a little white colored box on the left side take that off and remove the wires, etc. and shake it... if it rattles and debris falls out then that's the problem. It's fairly common and they make a kit to replace it with a better designed part that's real easy to install yourself. If your compressor has a label on it with a blue indian head symbol, then you're out of luck as that brand pretty much sucks and is destroyed by heat. It would mean a new compressor and then you'd be lucky if the new one even worked from the factory. Avoid those Tecumseh compressors at all cost.

SOURCE: GE Frigerator has intermittant Freezing

It sounds like the defrost heater is burned out. Remove the inside back cover in the freezer to see if the coils are frozen up. If so, more than likely your defrost heater has bit the dust. It is located at the bottom of the inside coil of the freezer.

Also, you could be have a clogged condensor coil. It is located on the out side back of the Fridge. You need to remove the panel from the lower part of the fridge and do a thorugh cleaning.

SOURCE: 5 year old refrigerator stopped cooling

Sounds like your refridgerant compressor or the motor driving it has bit the dust.  I am assuming it does not kick on or you can't hear it running.  Call a local appliance repair to get a quote, but 9 times out of 10, it is cheaper to replace the fridge.  A motor and compressor can cost upwards of 300-600 bucks.  That is just from my knowledge and your model may be higher or lower.  Best to get an appliance guy to take a look.

Hello! My Frigidaire FAH086N1T Thru-Wall/Window Air Conditioner was on the fan setting (high) and it started smoke and smell burned. What happened?!

Hi, it sounds to me like you are loosing this motor. Normally when a blower motor fails, which in your case you have a dual shaft motor which also cools the outdoor coil, the condenser, and blows cool air indoors. If it started blowing smoke inside and you smelled an electrical smell, it was either the motor has a burned spot on the armature from dirt or age. If the motor seems to be running ok, try switching it to cool to see if the compressor is working, and do this to all positions on the selector switch. Wait about 5 minutes in between. If all is working properly, its only a matter of time before the motor fails completely. I would run it until it dies out. There are many safetys on the unit, so you are in no danger of a fire when it fails, it will just make noise and freeze up. You will save money if you replace the complete unit and not the motor. If you call out a tech they will remove it and take it to there shop to make repairs charging you by the HR, and this will add up including the cost of the dual shaft motor. Please take my advice as I have had to do this many times before.
Sincerely,

Washer make noise doing spin cycle smell smoke make the power cord warm to touch

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site Joe. Usually, if a washer makes noises during spinning, it means the drive basket is broken. Make sure your pulley's are not sticking and rubbing the belt. This causes the basket to be unstable during the spin cycle. As far as the smell of smoke, try checking the belt and make sure it is not worn or loose. Inspect the motor to check for noises, grinding, or smoke. Your transmission may be burning up. Usually, the cord will remain warm, but not hot. The washer may be working extra if a belt is sticking or during the spinning process. If you have any other questions Joe, just let me know. Thanks for using FixYa.

My hard drive has been making a clicking noise for a while, the computer freezes up at times, I do not think the cooling fan is working, could this cause the issue with the hard drive making noise, and if...

More than likely, your hard drive is failing. This COULD be the cause for the freezing. The other thing that could cause the freezing is if the processor is getting too hot due to the failed fan. Either way you will need to have your HD replaced before it fails completely. The clicking you are hearing is the read head hitting the case of the hard drive. It might have started from being too hot. If the parts of your computer are getting too hot, it will increase the chances that they will fail in the future.

1st, the fuse location is marked, what is the 20 Amp fuse for? 2nd, did the smoke have a nauseating sweet smell to it? If it smells like described it is the heater core leaking, coolant steam looks like smoke.
