Question about Coleman Powermate 27 Gallon Air Compressor

1 Answer

I have disassembled and cleaned the pressure switch, air valves, etc. no clogs, all in good repair. This assembly will get too hot to touch in 5-10 minutes of use. The hose will get to hot to touch in 15-20 minutes of use. The tank itself will get warm. I believe the only place that could generate this heat is the pump piston, part #048-0774. Does anyone believe replacing this part will solve the heat problem?

The laws of physics dictate that when you compress air, it will increase in temperature, so it is quite normal for the pump and connecting pipes to get quite hot (ie: to hot to touch) reasonably quickly and associated tank and hoses to get warm also.
Make sure oil level in pump is at the correct level as it provides cooling as well as lubrication for the pump.

Hot water pressure is weak. Shower head isn't clogged. Cold water pressure is good. How do I increase the hot water pressure?

Is the hot water pressure good at other fixtures in the house? I'm guessing your newer valves have a scolding adjustment that is set very low. Check the instructions that came with the valve assembly.

Not Filling With Water OTHER washers test similiarly- test water inlet valve water and pressure switch. Test the water pressure level switch a pressure activated switch that is used to determine the correct water level in the tub. This part is normally located behind the control panel and will have a hose or air dome tube that connects it to the tub. On washers that use an electronic control, this switch may be located at the sump area below the tub. As the water fills in the tub it will compress the air in the tube and push against a diaphragm inside the switch. The switch will control the water inlet valve and turn the valve off at the correct water level. If the tube has a leak, not enough pressure may be created to activate the switch and the washer may overfill. If the switch is defective it may also cause the machine to overfill. To determine if the switch is bad, you should first eliminate the air dome hose as a problem. Look for signs of cracks or worn areas on the hose. Remove the hose and submerge in water. Seal one end and blow air into the other end and look for bubbles. Check for an obstruction in the hose as well. If the air dome hose appears to be ok, then the water level switch may be defective.

You can test it with a meter and with a manual test? ( first locate it in the panel, it has a plastic clear tube hose going into it, remove that tube from its connection, now put another small tube or hose into the slot where it was and have the machine set to wash cycle with water in it. Blow into the other end of the tube.
If the machine starts to wash. the pressure switch is more than likely good
( No wash- then THE DIAPHRAGM IS BAD AND SWITCH HAS TO BE REPLACED).

# Test procedures to follow

* Disconnect the washer from the wall outlet
* Set the timer dial on regular and pull the knob to turn the timer push-pull switch on
* Set the temperature switch to the cold/cold setting
* Open the controls panel to gain access to the water mixing valve solenoids
* Touch the 2 terminals on the cold water solenoid with your volt meter test proves. Make sure that your body don't touch the washer cabinet, this eliminate the chance of getting an electrical shock.
* Have someone plug the washer cord for you while you check the voltage
* The reading should be 120 volts
* Disconnect the washer from the wall outlet
* Touch the 2 terminals on the hot water solenoid with your volt meter test proves. Remember, to keep your body from touching the washer cabinet to eliminate the chance of getting an electrical shock

#
2
Have your helper plug in the washer cord again so you could check the voltage at the hot water solenoid

The reading should be 120 volts. If you get 120 volts, this tells you that the wall outlet, the timer, the water temperature switch cold and hot water settings are working ok.
3
If the washer is not filling, the problem should be on the water valve, the screen filters or the water supply
4
If one of the solenoids is bad you will need to replace the complete water mixing valve assembly YOU SHOULD ALSO GET AN OHMS READING OR SHOW CONTINUITY WHEN TESTED UNPLUGGED ON BOTH SELINOIDS HOT AND COLD

To check the water valve, first cut the water off and remove the hoses off the back of the washer. Then one at a time point the hoses inside the washer tub and turn the water back on. If you don't have good water pressure, turn the water back off and remove the strainer that should be in one end of the hose. Inspect the strainer to see if it is stopped up, clean it and reinstall it. Now repeat this test. If you have good water pressure now, reinstall hose and your problem is fixed.
If you still don't have good water pressure, the problem is in your house plumbing and you need to call a plumber. If you had good water pressure the first time you performed the test, the water valve is bad and needs replacing.

My washer wont fill with water what seems to be the problem

Hi

If the washer won't fill you'll need to check for the water inlet hose, the water inlet valve and the pressure/water level switch assembly. Inspect the inlet hose coming to the washer for any blockages. If the hose is not clogged then check the water inlet valve for any clogs, if the water will not even fill for few seconds then certainly the water inlet valve is bad and should be replaced. You can also use a multimeter to check continuity on inlet valve. If you don't get any value on the multimeter then you'll need to replace the water inlet valve assembly. However, if the valve is fine then the pressure/water level switch assembly should be replaced. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

What would cause load unload sump pressure?

Is this a rotary screw unit? Was it low unloaded sump pressure? If so the most probable cause is the minimum pressure check valve located under the aluminum cap on the seperater tank (oil tank). The check valve piston binds in the housing due to rust, dirt, etc. If you are going to attempt the repair your self I would recommend purchasing rebuild kit before disassembly.
If this problem is with a 2475 unit I would look at the pressure switch. If you are saying the unit starts/stops/starts etc and it is equiped with a low oil level switch the oil level is low. fill it to the oil fill plug threads.

Does not stop filling up

Every washer has a water level switch. These switches work by air pressure. As water rises in the tub, air trapped in the pressure tube on bottom of the tub is squeezed till it makes a lever inside the water level switch kill the power to them water valve solenoids and shift the power over to the motor. Sand and sediment will get into the sump where that tube connects blocking the air and so the switch dont know when to shut off. Disconnect the hose at the water level switch and blow out the stuff on bottom of tub. Reconnect the tube securely and pump out any water in the tub. Restart the machine.

When it gets to rinse cycle it goes for a little while then shuts off with it blinking IE on the screen

Error code IE means an water inlet error. Correct water level is not reached within 8 minutes after water is supplied or it does not reach the preset water level within 25 minutes. Unplug the washer before servicing.
  • Make sure the water tap is open.
  • Clean the water inlet valve filter.
  • Check the water inlet valve assembly:
  1. Remove the 2 screws on the back of the top plate.
  2. Pull the top plate backward then upward as shown.83d408f.jpg
  3. Disconnect the connectors from the inlet valve assembly one at a time and check the resistance between its terminals. Resistance should be 800-1200 ohms. Replace the inlet valve assembly if one or more of the valves is/are faulty.
  4. Check the electrical connection between the inlet valve assembly and the main board. Repair open or loose connections.89b21c3.jpg
  • If no problem or fault is found above, turn on the machine and press the SPIN SPEED and SOIL LEVEL button simultaneously to check the water level frequency. The digits on the display indicates the water level frequency. If the value is 246 or above, replace the main board.
  • If the water level frequency is below 246, check the pressure switch assembly, pressure switch tube and air chamber. The air chamber is found at the base of the washer on the other end of the pressure switch tube and connected to the bellow. Make sure they are not clogged and that the pressure switch is okay.e125ce9.jpg
