    Hi,

First you need to see if your router itself is connected to the internet. Can you log into the admin page of the router by typing the following address into your browser:

    http://192.168.1.1 (Also try 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.0.0.1)

If that page comes up, the problem is with the router's connection to the internet, not the laptop's connection to the router. You may then need to configure the router.

Also check to make sure the Linksys your using is compatabe with Windows 98. You may need to go to http://www.linksys.com and install Windows 98 drivers.

Linksys USB300M cannot install driver for win 98 there is no "installer" on the CD and win98 does not see it for an automatic startup

This adapter is only supported on Windows 98 SE (Second Edition), not older versions of Windows 98. The drivers are already built into Windows 98 SE.

My wireless adapter drops the internet signal randomly for several seconds and reconnects. this is a very annoying problem since I am an online gamer. Please help

Try using a different channel, move your antenna's around keeping in mind reflective and blocking walls/metal shelves/trees/etc. You may have a great signal but there are many other issues that can plague a wireless signal while it still shows strong from your adapter/driver.

Use one of the war driving or basic spectrum analyzers to try to determine which channels are least congested in your area.

Can't get my adapter to connect...XP is stuck with Aquiring a network address.

Have had this same problem. This worked for me. Remove the adapter, uninstall linksys, if it is installed, restart the computer, insert the adapter, when found new hardware comes up, let windows use the install wizard to install the adapter. Sorry to say, i have used this method on 5 pcs and it failed on only one. Let's hope yours will also be possitive. Good luck.

Making my desktop pc wireless

There is no built-in wireless LAN support in Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0. Wireless network adapter manufacturers must supply all wireless and authentication functionality for these versions of Windows.
To configure a wireless client computer running Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0, you must use the wireless configuration tool provided by your wireless network adapter manufacturer. Please see the instructions for the wireless configuration tool to configure 802.11 and 802.1X authentication settings.

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.

Wont install

I have only tried this on Windows XP. If you can connect to the web using a hard line you can get this running. Make sure you have internet. Then plug the wireless adapter into the usb port and when windows ask if it can search the internet say yes. That will install a driver for the wusb54gc. Then windows will manage the device. Linksys only has the option to download the installer as opposed to just the driver. What a pain when the installer doesn't work.
