This unit should print on USB regardless of how the machine settings are. You will need to install the driver on your computer, available as a download on the Canon web site. Setting up the unit for a network can be involved, and depends on how you have your computers networked. `resetting' the factory settings will not solve either issue.
The Canon 8180 will work with Windows 7 32 bit operating systems only. Their latest ToolBox drivers will also get the USB connected scanner to function. 64 bit Windows 7 users are simply out of luck as the printer is not compatible. Drivers are on Canon's site and easy to access.

You need to uninstall the existing driver first and reboot the computer then try downloading the vista driver and install it back that should take care of the issue.
