Question about Ovens

I have an Advantium 120 oven: combo convecdtion and microwave. It is eight years old. It has developed a loud gurgling/boiling sound fwhen in use and even when turned off.

I don't think it is caused by vibrations. It has a boil ing sound. Googling around I read of the possiblilities of: a failed magnetron, or perhaps a shorted high voltage rectifier diode ...or a door switch (doubt that).

Hi,
My take on your problem is that you have water (condensation) trapped up in the plastic part that houses the magnetron. When the microwave runs it also heats this water up and then after it stops this water is still up there boiling away....I would say that it is time to take that thing apart but you have to be extremely careful with the high voltage capacitors that a microwave contains.....

Also check for cracks in the plastic on the sides or top where water vapor could have escaped into the top of the microwave. If you take it apart and dry it out then you need to make sure it is sealed so no more water can get there.

Hello,

Assuming operation is normal otherwise, this is most likely either a fan or other motor vibrating on its mounts, fan blades hitting something, or some sheet metal or the high voltage power transformer laminations vibrating. There may be something stuck under the turntable or above the waveguide cover interfering with the stirrer. Something may have loosened up with age and use.
If the noise is caused be simple vibrations, no damage is likely to result. However, if the main cooling fan is on its way out and it stops or gets stuck, parts will overheat quite quickly at which point the oven will shut down, hopefully and there could be damage to the magnetron or other components. Therefore, at least identifying the cause is probably a good idea.
The solution may be as simple as tightening a screw or weging a shim between two pieces of vibrating sheet metal.

Take care.

I am getting arching in the oven when the only thing is themetal pan (rotating) the white dish and any food on the white dish What is happening?

Hello, thank you for posting your question on Fixya. I will be helping you with your Advantium oven. From your description it sounds like your having problem with the oven arcing. While you are using your microwave you can only have arcing occur while you are using the microwave or speedcook feature. While in either mode attention must be given to any mental in the oven. When microwaving place food and containers on the white ceramic tray only. The metal pan should be used during speedcook.

Happy Holidays!

Goldstar ma-1012W microwave oven doesn't heat food

Sounds like a bad magnetron (the device that produces the microwaves) - if the microwave is over 6-8 years old, it's usually not worth fixing.

Jenn-air microwave light bulb

This is an older (Mfgr. May, 1987) microwave oven. Functions perfectly, works an looks good to this day, just no light inside. I searched a couple of websites looking for parts for this unit and appliancepartspros.com provided schematics of the product that I own. From those drawings, it was determined that the microwave oven will have to be slid out of the cabinet above the built-in oven in order to change a $2.37, 40W light bulb. Just a handfull of scrws retaining the oven and exhaust baffles and I'll get it out (onmce the New Year's Eve hangover disappears). The engineer who designed a system like this must have been on an Acid Trip. I haven't looked closely at newer microwave ovens, but I'd have to believe changing a crummy light bulb would have to be made easier than this during the preliminary engineering phase of design.

KitchenAid Wall and Microwave Oven Combo - KEMS308SSS

Have had this oven for 8 years. At least three times, usually after using the clean cycle in the main oven, the latch mechanism has broke and the oven door will not open. In March they installed a 'new design' to prevent this. It's seven months later, and it broke again. Has anyone had similar experiences? How did you resolve?
