thank you, I finally managed get the screen to come on after shutting it down and restarting. The laptop tried to re-install the device driver but failed. I think it is not recognising that the drive exists.

    Thankyou for your assistance.

Try booting into safe mode with CD-ROM support. Once you boot up to the Vista Desktop, restart the machine.

the reason can be many, any way follow these steps; - clean the cd (Scratches, scuffs, break in the disc; they can all cause the problem you described.) 1) Right click on "My Computer" and click "Properties"
2) Go to the "Hardware" tab and Click the "Device Manager" button.
3) Find "DVD/CD-ROM Drives" and click the + to drop down your installed devices
4) Find your device and Right click, then choose "uninstall"
5) Reboot
6) When you boot back up, Windows XP will recognize you have a hardware device that isn't configured
7) Follow the prompts to setup the device (You can connect to Windows Update to allow it to search for a driver
If the laptop is recognizing any cd then it might be the drive is damaged/broken and needs to be replaced.Hope these information helps,

Dvd super multi dl dosent work in my lap

you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps

All my saved pictures have been deleted and the screen continually goes blank

Greetings and thanks for the question, there are various reasons why this happens. Without having your computer here to see what is going on is anybody s guess on how to repair it. If I may offer some suggestions. Since I also do not know what operating system you are using I will assume it is Win 7.
I would personally go to control panel and check my power options to make sure I do not have the settings set you close display or sleep mode or anything set to soon to close your machine down. Often times people have these set to go off there are defaulted usually to save battery usage and your lap top from getting to hot and shutting it down. The thermal switch may be activating sooner than normal. What some folks do is purchase one of those underneath fan coolers to keep their lap tops from getting to hot and constantly shutting down.
This can be the case have this checked out at least set the lap top for more time before closing down or turning the monitor off. Let us hope it is not more serious than appears. Like a lamp in the monitor going out. If it is new the lap top I would not worry about that issue because it is intermittent. Which leads me to believe it is a thermal or a shut down issue. Get the cooler fan for your lap top I recommend anyone that reads this post to also do this as well. Clean your lap top blow them out it is critical to do this to keep dust away and keep it clean.
Now there is recovery software which is free to download Click Here to check this out to retrieve lost files. Also important to get those precious memories separate off your computer and on to separate CD or DVD or storage USB stick so that when this type of thing happens you have not lost your precious memories. I hope this helps you. John

Freind of mine, deleted his D Drive on his laptop, is no longer showing up, can it be retreived? or will he need a new laptop?

The "D" drive is a virtual device ... deleting it only turns off the flag that says it is there. As he continues to use the device, more and more of what once was the "D" drive will be over written. Notmally, the "D" drive is for recovery. I suggest he invest in a set of restore CD's from the manufacturer and continue to use the lap top as is.

Not detecting the wireless

Download the driver and let it put its installation temp file on the hard drive...usually does that directly on C drive under the folder name HP. Go to the device manager and uninstall the wirless. power down the laptop. power up and reboot. Let windows find the wireless card and prompt you with the found hardware window, follow the prompt and let windows install the drivers. Just make sure you download the newest driver you can find and if windows asks to search online, approve it and let it find the driver it wants. Good luck. ParrotHead PC Repair

Shut down

There is a program that came with the installation Cd called Philips Device Manager. You can download it from if you lost the CD. Use the Philips Device Manager to repair the player. If the device manager will not repair the player, then try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
