Connect Canon DV20 to Computer

When I connect the HV20 to the computer by firewire, the computer does not detect it. I tried it on a computer with Vista, as well as a computer with XP.
Both computers have Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate.

Any suggestions????

Hi,

Do you have another PC or laptop then pleasetry to connect it on the other laptop and see if you face the same problem. If you get the same problem again then the fault is with your camera and you will have to get it repaired or replaced if it is still under warranty.

If you don't face the problem then the problem is with your first PC/laptop which you tried to connect.Do one thing take a backup of your Pc/laptop and then do a system restore.
Doing a system restore it will restore your Pc/laptop to a previuis time when it worked fine and also make sure you don't connect the cam into it..

System restore:

START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>SYSTEM RESTORE

Another few points:
Make sure your using the right vista drivers for the cam on your Pc/laptop.Also try reinstalling them again..
Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution

Try reinstalling the driver for the camera...
and vista doesnt support most of the new cameras drivers..
also try with other compatible camera drivers....

    1. Apparently, Service Pack SP2 can interfere with Firewire, & Microsoft issued a patch to solve it.

    It's at

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...
(You must be Administrator or Administrator-equivalent to install.
    )
Or search Microsoft Download Centre for Update for Windows XP (KB885222)

    2. You could also just try deleting the Firewire driver in
Device Manager, reboot and Windoze will replace the driver via
plug-and-play. This has reportedly worked for some folks.

How to connect canon gl-2 camcorder to computer

Are you using the proper Firewire cable to connect? Also, the GL2 has had issue with the Firewire port going bad. Try a different cable and see if that helps. It can't be a USB-Firewire cable either.

Do i need a cord to transfer my canon ax h1 footage to my computer?

Yes you need a IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.LINK) cable to connect your camera to your computer.
Your computer also should have a Firewire port to connect this to your computer.

Else if you have a video capture card then you can connect the video out cable and capture the video from the camera.

Hello, I recently shot a student film on a Canon HV20 HDV Camcorder, Problem is my school doesn't have an HD deck to allow log and capture. I have final cut 6 and still can't get the setting right to...

This camera works fine with FCP 6. I use it all the time. You need to use the Easy Setup for Firewire basic HDV 1080/60i (or whatever sounds like that). The camera should be connected from it's small connector FIREWIRE port(under back panel cover -- USB port will not work for this use) to either a Firewire 400 or Firewire 800 port (auto-switches to 400Mbps if the device doesn't support 800) on the computer. Cables are available with a variety of connectors for this for under $20 ea (it's digital -- i.e. don't overspend on cables unless you have an actual problem!).

I can't upload video from my Canon GL1

first off make sure you are positively connected to computer via usb. then make sure your drivers are updated. then see if it connects. also note that your camera screen may say "would you like to connect to usb port?" make sure if that does appear that you hit yes. best of luck!

Detection problem of video cam panasonic gs90 ev

Hi

If you're using windows XP, the camera will be automatically identified.
Anyhow, try the following:
1. Check the cable for any possible defects.
2. Switch off the computer.
3. Connect the cable to both the camcorder and the firewire card.
4. Switch on the computer.
5. Switch on the camcorder.

If the cable and the firewire card are both okay then it is possible
that the camcorder firewire interface is damaged.

good luck

I'm trying to connect my canon hv 20 to my macbook pro, and the computer won't detect the camera.

Connect via USB to see contents of the miniSD card. Connect via Firewire to do anything with recorded video/audio. USB setting may require further fooling around with camera settings to be visible on some computers, since the miniSD card should mount, just like a flash drive. I have one of these camcorders and this all works just fine.

How do I capture vidio to my conputer

You will need a capture card and a video editing program on your Windows machine, and what is known as a firewire input. Macs from the G3 upward have a firewire input built in. Macs come with I-Video program which offers log and capture and editing capability. Connect one end of he firewire cord to the camera computer output and the other to the computer. Select the log and capture option in the software and transfer video. You will need lots of hard drive space to store your video, about 10 gigs per hour. You will also need a way to burn your video to DVD if you wish to save it and view it. Some people just upload their video to YouTube, which will only accept video of nine minutes in length or less. While it may seem simple, there are a lot of techniques you will need to learn to capture, edit and output video. You will need to experiment a lo before you learn all the tricks and variations in this process/.

Cant detect camera on dv video recording transfers.

Hi, I hope the camera you are talking about is ZR200 Mini DV.
As per its specifications. It has a firewire/DV port.
Therefore, follow these steps. I assume you are using this cable. http://cdn.overstock.com/images/products/L10726964.jpg

I am not sure how you used the firewire cable before.
So, try this. Connect one end of the cable to computer and other to the camera. Switch on the camera and keep it in play/ edit mode (not in shooting mode).
When you connect the other end to the computer,  There should be a popup asking you what to do.
If there is no popup,  Open Windows Movie maker and import video from device. You should see the camera in it.
Hope it works.
