Question about Mackie SWA1501 Subwoofer

1 Answer

The mains input fuse (4amp) and a (1amp) fuse on the main power out board were blown. Replaced fuses and switched on, blown again, disconnected output from transformer to main board (4amp) fuse did not blow fault appears to be on main power out board. Further investigation showed R1 (4.7K) on circuit board had becomed detatched and main power board and output transistors checked out dead short in all directions. What is the best course of action, replace transistors or complete board swap. Where is the best place to buy one or the other. Thanks for your help.

The cheapest option is to replace the transistors (a quick check on google will tell you how much they are). If they are common transistors you will be able to find them and get them quicker then searching for a board that could be no longer being made.

Hello,

Either power supply problem or blown surface mount fuse on the main board. First check all SMD fuses on the main board, and the fuse on the power supply board. If the power supply board fuse has blown replace it and try again, if it blows again you need to replace the power supply. If the power supply seems OK check all SMD fuses on the main board. There are 7 on the V3 and about a dozen on the V4 / V5 / V6.
NOTE.... you have to open the console to do this ...

I hope this help in solving the problem.....

Make sure the noise filter connectors are clean and connected properly. Get yourself a multimeter and check the voltage both on the load side and line side of the noise filter. It should read the same at 120VAC. The noise filter is the board before the main board. Replace it if the voltages on its load and line side are not the same.

The main board is not serviceable and must be replaced if faulty. It has a fuse and if it is blown, the main board is probably faulty. Look at the two brown capacitors on the top left of the main board. Next to it is a heat sink and to its right is a white "fuse-like" component with silver ends. That is the main board fuse. If it is blown, disconnect all the connectors from the main board except the one connecting it to the noise filter. Jump a single thin strand of wire in place of the fuse and apply power to the machine. Check if the power LED indicator on the main board lights up. If it does not, the main board is dead, replace it.

Please do not hesitate to update me about your findings above for further guidance if necessary.

If its the model i'm thinking of, there is a fuse located on electronic board. disconnect power. acess by removing 3 screws along top rear, top panel comes off. locate fuse-if faulty, fuse should be replaced with a 4amp slow blow fuse.
