    Rylee
    Thanks for your suggestion, I will try this later today. I have doubts, however, because CDs play just fine. is there anything specific to the DVD reading that could be malfunctioning?

  • Marcelo Jaime Sep 02, 2010

    One more question: Is there any switch inside the box that allow to reset th e*zone* settings?

  • Marcelo Jaime Sep 02, 2010

    Thanks. I will try your suggestions tonight,.. and close this issue tomorrow morning!

  • Marcelo Jaime Sep 03, 2010

    The strange thing is that CDs play fine. The problem only happens with DVDs!

  • Marcelo Jaime Sep 03, 2010

    How do I upload firmware into a DVD player?

  • Marcelo Jaime Sep 03, 2010

    ok.. the third is the charm.. they say. My Sony DVP-NS57P DVD player does *cannot play* DVDs.. although it plays CDs fine. I tried cleanning the lens, and unplugging it for more than 10 hrs. The problem repeats with all DVDs in my possecion. Ther are, I think, US zone.

  • Marcelo Jaime Sep 03, 2010

    This is a $25 player... I guess it goes straight to the trash...

  • Marcelo Jaime Sep 03, 2010

    Even better... I 'll flush the entire thing.. not just the memory... in the toilet!

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems that the lens is unable to read discs and/or the motor that is not spinning the disc. To start with try running a lens cleaning disc, if that does not work then you have to open the unit and clean the lens with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol. If still the issue is not resolved then the lens should be replaced however, replacing a lens will cost you around $75 and a new one will cost you around $50. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

    Nope you can leave it unplugged for 8-10hrs so that it resets.

Are you trying to play a burn disc for the first time? Have you tried opening the disc tray and blow inside there a few times really hard or use a can of compressed air and blow in there? You can also try and remote the cover and cleaning the laser lens eye with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab.

    Make sure you are using the right region discs, if needed, download a firmware update for it.

    This is not something one can do on a person's own. It requires a special device that flashes the memory and updates it. It would likely have to be sent in for this. I would check the region code and make sure it is on NTSC and not PAL
    Clean the lens if needed.

    I honestly would do the same thing.

I have a Sony DVP s57p DVD player and my DVD's will not play. Well it does for about a minute then stops and goes back to the menu. How can I fix it? Thank you.

Hello
When you insert disc in it, do it show "reading" display on its display?. If so how much time will it take [in seconds] to return to 'Menu" display?. Check this test for atleast three times, and get the result to me by Fixya. OK.

DVP-NS30 shows "CANNOT PLAY" message when DVD inserted

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the DVD player cannot read or play the inserted disc.
  1. Ensure the inserted disc is compatible with the DVD player.IMPORTANT: Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product for a list of compatible disc. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
  2. Use a soft cloth to clean the disc.
  3. Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback.
  4. Attempt to play another disc.NOTES:
    • If another disc plays in the DVD player, then the previous disc is faulty.
    • Some recordable discs may not play correctly because of the quality of the recording, the physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device or authoring software used.

  5. Remove the disc from the DVD player.
  6. Turn off the DVD player.
  7. Unplug the power cord of the DVD player from the AC outlet.
  8. Let the DVD player remain without power for 1 minute.
  9. Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
  10. Turn on the DVD player.
  11. Insert the disc into the DVD player.
  12. Attempt to play the disc.
If still persists, its time for your device to get serviced.

Sony DVP-NS57P all region

Try this,
1) Plug the DVD Power Cord to the wall jack, but DO NOT Turn On the player;
2) With the Remote Control, press: Display, Top Menu, Clear and Power;
3) It will enter in the Service Mode;
4) Choose option 2 and then 4;
5) It will ask for an Input Code and Current Code (its 5 spaces), press 1245 and then Zero;
6) Leave all Zero erasing 1245, and on the bottom field all Zero too, then press Enter;
7) So the DVD Display will show a Zero (all Region-Free),     then press Power to Turn Off.
