Outlook express will no longer open

I can no longer get to Outlook Express on my Dell computer. What has happened to it?

    when going to outlook express to check e mails it will not open and stay on the page it keeps going back to main screen

Check the settings of your mail account configure on it.

MAPI error message when import or export messages in Outlook Express


·You import mail from Outlook into Outlook Express, but you removed Outlook from your computer before you tried to import the mail into Outlook Express.
·You configure Outlook Express to be the default Simple Messaging application programming interface (MAPI) client.
·You import or export mail from Outlook Express, and you do not have Outlook installed on your computer.
To resolve this issue, try one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.

Method 2: Change your MAPI Settings

Configure Outlook Express to not be the default Simple MAPI client before you import the mail items. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Restart your computer, and then start Outlook Express.

3.On theConnectiontab, clickChangeto open theInternet Propertiesdialog box.
4.On theProgramstab, click an e-mail application other than Outlook Express in theE-maillist. ClickApply, and then clickOK.
5.ClickOKagain to close theOptionsdialog box.
6.Exit Outlook Express, and then restart Outlook Express.

You can now import or export messages.

Duplicate emails in Outlook Express?


When Outlook Express is configured for POP3 mail access it uses a file called pop3uidl.dbx to keep track of which message have been downloaded so that it can download only new messages. Sometimes this file becomes corrupted which results in the same messages getting downloaded again. So we will need a different copy of this file. Please do the following to recreate it:

- In Outlook Express click on Tools and Options.
- Click on maintenance tab.
- Click on Store folder button.
- It will open a small window with a path to the store folder.
- Copy the whole path.
- Click on start and Run.
- Click inside the run box and press Ctrl+V, it will paste the whole path we copied.
- Click on OK. It will open the store location.
- Close Outlook Express.
- In the folder that was opened, locate the pop3uidl.dbx file and right click on it and select rename.
- Rename that to pop3uidlold.dbx.
- Open Outlook Express and you will no longer receive any duplicate messages.

If you are using IMAP account, that can happen if your IMAP account is the default mail account and OE is configured to both open directly to the Inbox (which downloads headers automatically) and check for new messages when starting (which also downloads headers automatically). To stop the duplicates, simply choose one option or the other, but not both:

In Outlook Express click Tools > Options, then
1. Remove the check mark for When starting, go directly to my ‘Inbox’ folder
OR
2. Remove the check mark for Send and receive messages at startup.

If you already have duplicates showing, click Tools > Synchronize Account or Synchronize All.

When messages are deleted in Outlook Express, they are not actually removed from the database containing your email data. Rather, the messages are marked to let Outlook Express know that they can be removed the next time the database is compacted. Compacting the message store is necessary for Outlook Express to maintain a reasonable database and avoid file corruption. Because it is necessary, Outlook Express offers to compact your message store every 100 times the program is used. If you do not compact your message store, the message will continue appearing. Compact the Outlook Express message store manually to remove the message asking if you would like your message store compacted automatically.
Compact the Outlook Express Message Store Manually Launch Outlook Express. Click "File," then click "Work Offline." This disconnects Outlook Express from the Internet temporarily, ensuring that the message store is not in use while you are compacting the database. Note: If you do not want to compact the Outlook Express message store at all, see Section 2. Click "Tools" and then "Options." Click the "Maintenance" tab. Click the "Clean Up Now" button. Click the "Compact" button. This process may take some time depending on when the message store was last compacted. Click "Close" or "OK" to close each window. The offer to compact the Outlook Express message store automatically will no longer be displayed. Click "File" and "Work Offline" to reconnect Outlook Express to the Internet. Compact the message store periodically to prevent the message from being displayed again. Remove the Offer to Compact the Message Store Without Compacting section 2 Press the Windows logo and "R" keys to display the "Run" dialog box. I cannot open dbx files


Hi,
If you cannot open the .dbx file, you need to have Outlook Express installed on your computer. Usually outlook Express is the default email client for Windows XP. http://www.dbxconverter.com/ you can try to use this link to get teh converter of .dbx files to .pst files that you can use and read using Microsoft Outlook (Third Party) or Windows Mail (default for Vista) Windows Live Mail(Windows 7).

Can't open outlook express


That's a well-discussed situation if you'd searched for answers much. Answers vary from reinstalling Outlook binaries to running cleanup utilities on the Outlook configuration files, mail archives, address archives, etc. depending on what BSOD you got (seriously, nothing but blue on the screen, no text?)

Backup your outlook address and startup files, and your data if you don't already back it up; then follow the instructions MSDN.com offer for Outlook Express initialization failing/hanging. That will produce a nicer result than just deleting your outlook.ini file. Microsoft like to make it do everything, but the cost is that there are now all these maintenance tools despite the fact that it's the Express (as in condensed) version.

I am trying to export my messages from Outlook


I dunno but you might be better off just copying the outlook express data files from one computer to the next instead of trying to export.

In Outlook Express, it will not let me read e-mails. It says "not enough memory". Help content does not list this problem. Scan disk & defrag do not solve either.


I might advised you to reinstall the Outlook Express to the computer. Check some of software that is install to the computer you might uninstall some of them. Check the specification of the Outlook Express, and also the memory to the computer is not reading the outlook properly.

Outlook express file recovery tool


Have a look at this follow the instructions it should make it all better.

MailNavigator can cope with the task of restoring out-of-order dbx files when Outlook Express itself cannot read them and when a range of other programs are not capable of restoring the information contained in these files. These situations can happen because of viruses, computer breakdown, power interruptions and many other reasons, leading to errors in the file system.
If your computer crashed, first of all you should make sure you have backup copies of your dbx files as well as of all other important data. It's good if you make backup copies of your data on a regular basis. But, unfortunately, in our experience situations are often encountered where there is already nothing to restore.
The process of data recovery from dbx files includes two stages:

If your Outlook Express program is properly installed and tuned, MailNavigator will automatically find the dbx files from the information in the systems register. In this case you can load the dbx files from the Information Retrieval page by double clicking on each of them. Or search for messages in these files using the search system.
If MailNavigator cannot automatically determine the location of the dbx files (for example if these files are on a CD), first you have to find them using search tools, and then load them into MailNavigator using the menu command:
File | Load External Mailbox...
eudora1.gif Once you've read the messages, select the ones that should be exported back into Outlook Express. You can use various filters to select the messages. If you want to export all the messages browsable in the Navigator at once, use the menu command:

Message | Select All
Having selected the messages, export them using the menu command:

Message | Save as...
eudora2.gif In the opened dialogue box, indicate the file and export path, and choose the file type: Eudora mailbox.
When the command is executed, there will be files in the export directory with extensions .toc and .mbx, and also a file descmap.pce. If there are attached files in the exported messages they will be saved in the subdirectory Attach.


Once the mailbox in Eudora format is created, open the program Outlook Express and use the menu command:
File | Import | Messages...

In the opened dialogue box, as the program from which the message is imported, select: Eudora Pro or Light:

In the next dialogue box indicate the directory in which you put the messages from MailNavigator at the export stage:

Further, if Outlook Express finds mailboxes in this directory, it will suggest you select one of them for import:

All that remains to do is to press the Finish button, and a folder containing the imported messages is created in Outlook Express. hope this helps
