We were playing UNCHARTED this morning just fine. Son paused the game on the menu screen. We left for a few hours. Came home and the PS3 was still on with the solid blue/green light like normal. We didn't see the game on the tv screen. We activated the controller. Nothing. We put in standby and then powered down the PS3. Waited 15 minutes. Checked all connections. Did nothing else. Turned it back on. Unit powers up fine and everything appears normal but now we have no picture. TV is fine. I tried 5 different games and several movies but nothing works. I tried holding down the reset button and nothing helps. Any thoughts?

It seemed as if you were getting the symptoms of the "blinking red light of doom" but luckily you didn't.And VERY VERY good thinking on the back up (i never thought of it and i almost lost all my data).
I hope your new hdd runs a 5400rpm and NOT 7200rpm.
1. A 7200rpm hdd will make system over-heat.
2. System run hotter (and in most cases of red light of doom) are HIGH graphics games such as MW2 & UNCHARTED 2.
3. Systems will last longer and cooler with an external fan that runs off its on power from a power outlet(not run off the power of the ps3!!!!)
I hope I have helped and please feel free to ask any questions GOOO UNCHARTED 2!!
try to make sure that the resolution and connections are appropriate for your screen at your home. if these settings are alreay correct then you should probably just return the system and try to get one from somewhere like amazon or ebay. sorry. Hope you get a good ps3!
This is what used to happen to me on my ps3 slim 160 GB when I put the disc in the screen goes black and int he top left corner I have a flashing disc, i updated the system to FW 4.00 and now the game works fine, i was previously running FW 3.73.
It's actually similar to the old screen burn in you'd see on very old CRT televisions and monitors. You can play your playstation on it, just make it a point not to leave it on the same screen for long periods. For instance, if you pause the game, turn the TV off until you're ready to continue.
Plasma Burn In only happens if you leave the same image on the screen for an extended period. Just don't do that, and you'll be fine.
