Question about Orion STV2763 27" TV

Orion TV, Model STV2763A

I am trying to find some pointers for a possible repair to an Orion TV, Model number STV2763A. It has tiny white lines running across the top of the screen. Other than this annoyance, it has a perfect picture. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Hi Jerry G.,

Thanks for the response. I had previously fixed a JVC television with the same problem and was quite surprised to find that the chassis of the Orion was made by JVC as well. As the boards were very similar, I switched out the corresponding capacitor in the vertical section of the board in the Orion set that I had changed out on the JVC set. I also had to jumper a couple of components due to the "delicate" circuit board characteristics concerning breaks in circuit lines adjacent to the capacitor I changed. All has been well with the set for the past month.

I have a Sony trinitron KV-27FS100 with the LEDs blinking four times in a row. Immediately after pressing the power button, the relay switch clicks and the error code is given.

It appears as though there is a very small amount of powder residue at the front of the set, so I have to wonder whether liquid was spilled in the front of the set by the owner. One post mentioned possible shorting of the tacs in the front of the set due to cleaning solution running down the picture tube, which can then interfere with the CPU functioning properly.

I have tried to change out the voltage regulator in the vertical section of the main board as this was suggested through another post; however, this didn't correct the problem.

A third post suggested that the flyback transformer might be the culprit.

Any suggestions on what might be causing this issue will be greatly appreciated as I hate to see televisions going to the landfills when they can be easily fixed.

    Thanks for the help!

This is usually caused by some of the electrolytic capacitors in the vertical deflection amplifier and in the blanking circuit areas. Sometimes it can be some of the other types of components going slightly off specs.

To test the capacitors, an ESR meter or the equivelent is required.

I would suggest sending the TV out to have an experienced TV service tech do this type of work for you. These types of problems can get very involved. There are also some serious safety issues when working on a TV set.

I have a orion stv2763a tv I want to now if I need a convert box? I no longer have cable and wanted to know will I need a box.

It depends on where the towers are and how strong of a signal you have in your area. You can find this information by going to the FCC's website. Even when you get the box most of the time you need to buy an antenna at your local radio shack or electronics store the good ones are like $30.00 or more so it can get spendy doing this.

A month ago our house was struck by lightning and The Insurance company wants to know what the price of the Television. Or what it is worth today. He purcheased the TV about 4or5 years ago. the tv was...

$150 usd- $177usd. SEE HERE

Quote from the link...
" My Bottom Line

Considering the price, I am pleased as punch with this purchase. Expecting to receive only basic features, the Orion shouldn't disappoint. Audio buffs should look elsewhere, but at a purchase price of approximately $150 for a 27" TV, one isn't looking to the STV2763A as a high tech set. I'm sure I'm forgetting certain specs here, but this my low tech review of a low tech set. I'm happy with the Orion, a nice balance of value and price."

Amount Paid (US$): 177.00

Since it is 4-5 years old look to get less than half from the insurance co.
