Insert the SATA and Power connector, enter the BIOS and ensure that SATA 2.0 controller is enabled.

Now boot into Windows and click control panel.
Double click Administrative tools and double click Computer Management.
Left on screen: Select Disk Management under the heading, storage.

Here is where the hard drive should be detected. If not present click action, followed by refresh.

Now select your new drive and format it using NTFS.

Take care!

The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

there are no drivers required for a hard drive.
Windows 7 should automatically detect the new hard drive and it should show up in disk management to format or prompt you to format.
Check your cable connections again.
Otherwise your new hard drive may be DOA. Return it to the store that you purchased from.

Any sata hdd can't dected by the mother board but any sata dvd dected by the mother board. what kind of procedure i followed now?

Your motherboard CAN detect a SATA device.
Your motherboard DOES detect your SATA optical device.
Your motherboard does NOT detect your SATA disk-drive.

This suggests that your disk-drive is "dead".
Exercise the WARRANTY on it, to get it repaired/replaced.
Or, if the warranty has EXPIRED, purchase a new SATA disk-drive.

Sata hdd not detected

Yes, go into the bios and make sure that SATA is turned on. Sometimes with motherboards that have two ide controllers the SATA is turned off by default. Also another thing to check is whether the motherboard is SATA I or SATA II. If it is SATA I then change the jumper on the hard drive to peg back to SATA I. Your new hard drive is SATA II and the motherboard may not support it.

Maybe the sata controller on your motherboard is disabled. Try searching for the settings of your sata controller on the bios and enable it.

M7NCD ULTRA raid drivers

If the SATA drive is operating in 3.0 Gbps mode and your motherboard can only support 1.5 Gbps mode, the drive will not be detected in BIOS or XP. Try jumpering the drive to SATA 1.5 Gbps mode. The label on your hard drive should indicate which pins should be shorted to achieve this setting; if not, look up your particular model on WD's website to find the manual.
