Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
Start the laptop normally. At the window asking for password hit CTRL+ALT+DEL twice. You will get at the classic log on screen asking for username and password. Type "administrator" without the quotes for username and leave the password area blank (don't type anything). Click on log on. After this you will get at the adminstrator's desktop. Go through Control panel - settings - users (or right click on my computer - manage - local users) and change the user password as you like.
In case the administrator account has been changed and the above trip didn't work, post me back to guide you.

If the default Operating System, i.e. windows xp is still installed, you can try login using the Administrators account. Once you reach the Login screen, press Ctrl+Alt+Del two times, you'll get the classic login box with username and password box. Usually the admin password is left blank, in the username box, type in "Administrator" (without quotes) and leave the password box blank and press Enter or click "Ok". If you are fortunate, you'll be able to login with the Administrator's account. You can make the changes with the default user account which is password protected once you are logged in as Administrator. If this isn't working and there's a password with the administrator's account or if it's not windows xp, your only option is to format it and reinstall the Windows.
There are several methods, but those are not authorized to apply without proper license and without authorization and will termed as Illegal if found. Actually it's System administrator's or System engineer's job to do all these.
In fact, this technique is not allowed to us
