Starting procedure

Terry: According to

  • Put on a pair of safety glasses. Remove the fuel cap from the Weed Eater and set it aside. Fill the fuel tank with unleaded gasoline that has been mixed with quality 2-stroke oil in a 40:1 ratio. Replace the fuel cap.
  • Move the Weed Eater to a safe place and lay it flat on the ground. Depress the fuel bulb located beneath the carburetor approximately six times to prime the engine. Press it slowly so that fuel has adequate time to traverse the fuel line.
  • Slide the handlebar-mounted engine "On/Stop" switch to the "On" position. Slide the choke lever beneath the fuel tank to the "Full" position.
  • Depress the "Throttle Lock" lever located beside the engine "On/Stop" switch. Keeping the lever depressed, squeeze the throttle trigger. Release the throttle lock. This sequence holds the trigger in the depressed position, which aids in starting the Weed Eater.
  • Roll the Weed Eater so that it is resting on the engine and the trimmer head shield only. This will allow the spinning trimmer head to avoid contact with the ground. Brace the Weed Eater by holding it to the ground with one hand. Using your other hand, pull the starter rope quickly until the engine begins to run. Do not pull the rope more than a dozen times. If it fails to start by then, squeeze the throttle trigger and continue to pull until the engine starts.
  • Allow the Weed Eater to warm up for about 15 seconds, then slide the choke lever to the "Off" position. Let the trimmer run for another minute without touching the throttle lever. After the Weed Eater has warmed up, squeeze the throttle trigger once to disengage the throttle lock. The trimmer is now operational.

I have a 2012 craftsman mdl 316.711970. I follow all maintenance requirements. It will only starts when the choke lever is in position 1. It takes forever to prime it cause the primer button doesnt pop...

I don't think so either. I think you have crud built up inside your fuel tank, and it needs to be thoroughly cleaned inside, Your carburetor may also need to be thoroughly cleaned inside.

Hi i have a 019 l stihl won't start plug is fairly new with my glasses on i can't read the position's to start and have no manual

Not a great Stihl fan, however they usually have a single stop start, choke and half throttle lever, depress the throttle trigger and at the same time pull the lever fully uplet go of the throttle trigger which should now be lock up, this will engage the part throttle and choke, crank the machine until it fires once, then move the lever down one notch and crank again until it fires up.

How do i turn it on

Depending on what kinda saw it is some have an on/off switch and some you just pull trigger lock and throttle up together and move the lever to choke position which activates switch and pull over till it snorts once then back off the lever 1 click and pull again till it starts, keep in mind when it starts it will be about 1/4 to 1/3 throttle so you will have to squeeze the trigger to release the fast throttle starting position, then to shut off just slide the lever one more click and it turns off, Hope I answered Your Question

My Stihl 210 saw will not shut off . After I flip the lever to the up position it just keeps idling. Have to switch it up and down numerous times for it to finally stop.

Pull the trigger, set the thumb-lever to full choke, and remove the air filter cover. Observe the flat brass spring behind that cover (on the left side of the unit). It should be ABOVE the shaft that rotates when the thumb-lever is moved up or down. Also notice the black wire with a round brass terminal on the end. That is the "stop-circuit" wire and should be inserted into the notch atop the rotating shaft, directly UNDER the flat brass spring.

If assembled correctly, the terminal end of the black wire will rotate when the thumb lever is moved upward and it will slide UNDER the flat brass spring to kill the engine by grounding it out. If the flat brass spring is located UNDER the shaft, it will not contact the wire's terminal. To avoid this in the future, always pull the throttle trigger BEFORE moving the thumb lever to choke position. If the thumb lever is pressed downward without pulling the throttle trigger first this issue will happen again.
Feel free to comment if this does not resolve your issue.

    Hope this helps,

    Difficulty starting Poulan 2250 . . .

    hey pete
This is easy, prime bulb 5 to 7 times with choke lever full out. Pull string, once engine starts turn off choke and pull string again. ( throughout process do not pull trigger )Engine should start, let it idle 30 seconds, then finally pull trigger to rev up engine.
