It is making a lot of noise. I believe it is the fan and I have oiled significantly with silicone spray on both sides of the fan motor and it resulted oin only a small improvement.

You will need to remove and clean but as a last try use a good deggreaser to wash off , try and use WD40, the use light oil-SAE40 to the fan spindle points and check out.
It will improve a lot but repeat the process a few times ,then switch on and repeat.

How do I fix the noise?

let it dry completely, disassemble as you would for cleaning, and remove filter unit. Inspect to make sure no paper or other debris like a seal has been dislodged. If you can see fan blade, see if it will turn with filter removed. If it moves easily, reassemble carefully and make sure the contacts are oriented correctly and any charcoal filter is on place as well. Try unit.

If noise persists, the unit has to be opened up to inspect bearings of fan/motor and to locate and remove any debris. At that time a drop of light sewing machine oil or pellet gun oil to lubricate the bearings is a good idea.

The Fan on my "Fresh

It could be getting clogged up. The lint screen has GOT to be kept clean or the machines fan will pull dust into the machine and it will cake on everything inside, including the fan(will make more sound while running) and can get into the bearings of the fan causing the problems you mention. It may also be a poor electrical connection. If you have ever OILED the motor...you'll have to clean it. It's not meant to have a lot of oil or grease on it.

The fan on my living air purifier doesnt turn anymore. Occasionally when I first turn the fan on, it will "try" to turn but stops almost immediately. do i need to replace the fan motor? Is it something I...

I just bought a used one of these at a sale. Horribly dirty, grimy, rusty, etc. Anyway, similar problem with fan. Clean it off and WD-40 or silicon it. You should be able to see an almost immediate response unless it's another problem. My fan went from a low speed when turned on "High" and from a complete stop on "low" to actually turning on low. Anyway, I laid it on it's front, sprayed some 40 on the back fan bolt (pin, screw, whatever), then used a pen to click the safety so it would turn on with the back off and in less than a minute it was at full speed. Good luck!

The fan makes noise when turning

It probably need oiling. The fan motor should be oiled at least every two months. For complete cleaning instructions (including oiling) e-mail to miller@healthyti.com. Ask for their free cleaning instructions. They will be glad to help.

Oreck XL air purifier motor failure

My Orek was making such a bad noise that my wife was going to sell it at a garage sale, I'm glad she didn't. It takes about 20 minutes to fix. All you need is a phillips screw driver, can of compressed air (or air compressor) and a can of silicone spray.
Pull out the filters and turn the unit upside down. Using a phillips screw driver unscrew the 9 screws holding the bottom to the top. remove the bottom. Use care as to not damage the fan. The fan will stay attached to the motor , pull on it and use a good cleaner like 409, Simple Green or a similar product. Wash clean and dry. Next get out your air compressor and clean everywhere, see the silver bearing holders on the side of the motor? Get out your can of silicone spray and give a good squirt on both bearing (close to the shaft. also spin the motor with your hands. See the large thing attached to the shaft? Those are the windings. See the metal housing the winding spin close to? Spray the silicon in there, a good amount. Make sure you didn't get any silicone on the end of the motor shaft where the fan sits on. If you did get some nail polish remover or acetone and wipe clean a few times. Then reassemble.
My Orek was horribly noisy, now it's quiet. My wife says is beeter than new.....

Fan Noise

Your fan motor probably needs additional maintenance, in the way of lubrication.

After removing the unit from power, access the Fan blade and spin with finger. If there is any resistance to note then the spindle running through 2 bearing surfaces needs lubrication.

See the other question/answer to fan removal - motor lube.

If you have any sort of humidity to contend with and have a FreshAir model F1 or earlier different type, they seem to have some corrosion problems after a period of a couple years.

It is just a function of the machine/job that necessitates such maintenance.
