You need to install the correct driver for the sound device, because with win XP it can install a generic driver but it wont be working properly so if its a built sound on your MOBO you need to install driver for it from the MOBO setup CD.

I have no installer CD to back the sound, my PC have no sound...

What you need is a driver for your audio hardware.
Here's what you need to do to find what company made the audio hardware and how to install it.

1. open the start menu, right click on my computer and select properties.
2. click on the hardware tab then the device manager button If your on Windows XP or click on device manager in the left hand side if you're running Vista or Windows 7.
3. A new window will pop up giving you a list of your current hardware on your computer.
Scroll through the list till you find one or more items with a yellow question mark next to them.
This means they are not installed properly.
4. One of those devices is your audio hardware and by looking at the name, find one that sounds like an audio device and right click on it, and click properties.
5. In the properties box click on the driver tab and click the update driver button.
After it has completed, restart your computer and test your sound.
If everything goes well, this should reinstall your sound driver.
If it does not install your driver, repeat this process for all devices in step 3 with yellow question marks next to them.
If this still does not fix your problem, or the driver update fails for some reason, you will need to find the drivers on the web for the specific device that the install failed for by searching for the name.

Sound Not Working (discrete sound card)
You probably need to make sure the new sound card is properly installed. Check device manager and make sure the new sound card does not have a yellow exclamation mark next to it.

If the card and driver are propery installed, then you can either disable the onboard audio from BIOS (enter this when the computer first boots up by pressing either F2 or delete several times)

Or
go to control panel, sound, and check the sound card as the default. Do this for .WAV and .MIDI and whatever else you see.

And that should take care of it.

No Sound (integrated Sound card)
check device manager. This can be done in Win XP by right clicking my computer, properties, hardware, then click device manager. Alternative way to enter device manager is by clicking start menu, control panel, system (performance and maintenance), hardware then device manager.

In the deice manager window see if any question marks or exclamation points are visible.

If so, see if it the mark is for an audio device.

If it is an audio device, uninstall the device.

Next, try to install the sound card driver again. If that fails, the enter the device manager and uninstall the sound card again, restart the PC, ignore the hardware manager, and try to install the sound card driver software again.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not...

I cant install Computer Speakers can someone help me? Computer says audio device installed but not working properly. Gives error code 10. What does code 10 mean?

Code 10 means that the sound card drivers could not start.... try this:

Goto START.
Right click on My Computer and select properties.
Select the hardware tab.
Select Device Manager.

Here you should see the audio device with a yellow exclamation mark by it.

Right click on it and select uninstall.

Once that has happened look for ACTION in device manager ( Up by FILE and select scan for new hardware.

IF this doesn't fix it you'll probably need to try downloading the latest drivers for the card or it could be defective!

Audio

Hi, Confirm that there is an audio device installed in your PC > right click on My Computer, Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager button, expand Sound, video and game controllers, It's got to be there, with no yellow or red marks. Also in Start, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Audio tab, you should have something in Default device. If none likewise in Device Manager or a yellow or red mark, you have to re-install your drivers by right clicking on the mark and click Update drivers. If they're there with no marks, ensure that they are enabled. Perhaps further assistance maybe made available if you can post brand/model of your PC and/or motherboard. Good luck and kind regards.
