2 Answers

Internet connection I have a lap top which has built in wireless connection. I have brought a Belkin G Router and I have followed al the set up procedures on the disk. When I come to open up the internet there is no connection. Also when it asks you to disconnect the cable that is connected to the laptop and modem and plug into the router and plug the blue plug to the laptop and into the router, at no stage does it tell you when to unplug the blue cable from the laptop so you can bewireless.

I, too, recently experienced this odd behavior on a friend's Belkin 54G. after changing the SSID from the default (yes, there was another Belkin54G SSID in the air) and changing the channel from 11 to 3 (anything other than 11), and disabling turbo mode, i would still lose the connection every 5 minutes or so. The workaround i used was to have 2 DOS shells open at all times. In one shell, run "ping 192.168.2.1 -t". As soon as you see the message "Request timed out.", type "ipconfig /renew" in the 2nd shell. That reattaches your computer's IP to the WAP router and corrects the issue for awhile.

one probable issue, especially if you're in an apartment community or neighborhood, is that wireless telephones (not cellular) that transmit in the 2.4 GHz frequency range will tear down a WiFi link anytime it's in use and especially when the phone is ringing for an incoming call. also, phones using this frequency have a range of up to 1 mile. the only solution i've found for that scenario is a) throw away the GHz phone if it's yours, or b) if it's not yours...better get out the ethernet cable ;)

It really happen when your using the setup CD to configure it.
You can also try to manually configure the router to work with your modem and ISP and also the wireless connection.
To configure the router manually you just need to access the router user interface and configure it from there.

Using your Internet browser, you can access the Router’s Web-Based
Advanced User Interface. In your browser, type “192.168.2.1” (you do
not need to type in anything else such as &ldquohttp://” or “www”). Then
    press the “Enter” key.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have difficulty accessing the Router’s
Web-Based Advanced User Interface, go to the section entitled
    “Manually Configuring Network Settings”.
    Logging into the Router
You will see the Router’s home page in your browser window. The
home page is visible to any user who wants to see it. To make any
changes to the Router’s settings, you have to log in. Clicking the
“Login” button or clicking on any one of the links on the home page
will take you to the login screen. The Router ships with no password
entered. In the login screen, leave the password blank and click the
    “Submit” button to log in.

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
If your network is secured then make sure that you are typing the correct network key.
also make sure that the DHCP server is enabled on the router.
is there any computer connected to the router ?
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
Router set up page is the page where you can check all the wireless settings of the router.

Cant connect belkin 54g router to internet

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.
It is very easy.

Installed belkin router for my lap top - doesnt work

Hi,

Thanks for using Fixya!

You have the right gizmo there. You just need to set it up correctly. If you are in the US contact belkin @ 1 800 223 5546.

You need to know your ISP type first before trying to contact them. Know if you have a PPPoE (High speed DSL with password) Dynamic IP internet (no user name or password required to connect to the internet, usually used by cable internet providers)

After you find the right information just contact belkin and they will assist you with the proper router usage.

Have a great day.

Laptop

the internet cable should be connected to the "Internet" or "WAN" port on the router. Your PC should be connected to one of the regular ports on the back of the router and your laptop can be connected just like the pc, or it can connect wirelessly.

Then you should be able to see the internet from your laptop.
