How to install 2.4Ghz wireless mouse with USB receiver?


Insert the batteries into the mouse. Turn the mouse over, find the battery cover, and slide it off. Insert the appropriate batteries-usually two AAs.
  • The wireless receiver that plugs into the computer uses USB power, so it needs no batteries.
Connect the receiver to the computer. If your computer has a USB port (as most do), plug your receiver into an available port. There will also be a green adapter supplied, in the event that your system requires the use of the mouse port. Caution-don't try and force the mouse adapter into the keyboard port!
  • The mouse receiver has a USB plug (left), but can also plug into the mouse plug through the adapter it came with (right). If your receiver plugs into the USB port it should look like the left. If it plugs into the mouse plug it should look like the one on the right, only connected to the receiver.
Connect the mouse to the receiver. Place the mouse in close proximity to the receiver, and note the following:
  • The receiver should have a visible button that is easily pushable by the average human finger.
  • The mouse will usually have a very small reset button in a hole on the bottom that can be pushed by something like a pencil or paper clip.
  • Push both buttons at the same time with the receiver and the mouse relatively close to each other for about 5 seconds or more.
Find a permanent position the receiver. Place the receiver where it won't be far away from the mouse. Depending on where you are, you can place it on the monitor, on the tower, on the back of your laptop (if you are installing the mouse to your laptop) or on the desk.
  • The furthest a wireless mouse can get away from the receiver and still function is about 9 feet (2.7 meters), so keep that in mind.
Test your new mouse.
  • If you plugged into the mouse port, restart your computer.
  • If you plugged it into the USB port you should be able to use it immediately.
  • When the cursor moves when you move the mouse, you have connected the mouse properly. If the cursor doesn't move, try repositioning the receiver. If it still doesn't work, you may need to restart your computer (if you haven't already) or reconnect everything.
Adjust your mouse settings. Use the control panel that came with your wireless mouse, or download the necessary software from the manufacturer's website. Adjust the settings so that the mouse performs as you require.

After not using my laptop for several months (it was plugged in however) my USB mouse will not work now when I boot up my Toshiba Satellite laptop.


Here are some trouble shooting steps you can try relatively easily....
If the mouse connects via a USB cable, try connecting it on another USB port while the laptop is on.
If it is an optical mouse, check to see if the LED(s) underneath are lit. Change ports until LED lights.
If you have another computer also with a USB mouse and it is working, try a mouse exchange. If the non-working mouse also does not work on the other computer and the mouse from the other computer works on your Toshiba Satellite laptop, the problem is likely with the non-working mouse.
Finally, If the non-working mouse is a wireless one, its battery may be dead. Try a new battery in it.

My acer mouse model number mg-0919 stops working after about 2 minutes. I have to turn the mouse off then back on. This happens constantly. What is going on? Is it defective? My mouse is under...


I had the same problem. This mouse came with my Acer Revo which was still under warranty. Tech support basically says to check the obvious (batteries, USB connection, RF interference). Their obviously canned answer goes on to detail a manual reconnect procedure that does not apply to this model. And when all else fails, get a new mouse.
This is what Acer tech support emailed me:
If you are experiencing issues with your wireless mouse not working properly, perform the following steps to troubleshoot the wireless mouse.

1) Ensure that the receiver is 8-inches from other electrical devices. Avoid placing the cordless devices on metallic surfaces.

2) Verify that the USB connector from the receiver is properly plugged into a USB port on the computer. Try plugging the receiver into a different USB port to ensure that the USB port is working properly.

3) Remove the batteries and then reinsert the batteries into the mouse, making sure that the battery polarities are correct.

4) Test the batteries to ensure that they still have a charge.

5) Try the manual connect procedure.

Manual connect procedure:

1) Press and release the Connect button on the receiver.

2) Within 30 seconds, press and release the Connect button on the mouse.

If the issue persists, we can replace your computer's wireless mouse.

I am plugging the stick into my office laptop. There doesn't seem to be a connection with the stick and the mouse.


First off make sure you have fresh batteries in the mouse. If the batteries are missing or weak then that would cause the no connection between the mouse and the usb stick.

After you check the mouse out for fresh batteries, then go ahead and plug the usb stick into your laptop. At this point you should hear a sound and windows should install the drivers for that mouse, if it doesn't then the next thing would be to try another computer or laptop that has working usb ports and try to connect the usb stick on another computer.

If it works then that means there is an issue with the usb ports on your office laptop. If the mouse still doesn't work then that means the usb stick is bad and you would need to buy a new mouse.

Cannot get mouse to work

If the underside of the mouse has an on/off switch, make sure to set the switch to the "On" position.
2.
Restart the computer. This can resolve the problem, at least temporarily, so that other troubleshooting steps can be applied.
3.
Move the mouse or keyboard closer to the receiver
The receiver is the hardware that receives the wireless signals from the keyboard and mouse and communicates the data to the computer. Most receivers connect to a USB port, either directly or by a cable, but a few types of receivers connect to the PS/2 ports.
. Make sure that the keyboard and the mouse are within 100 centimeters (39 inches) of the receiver. If the receiver is attached to a cord, position it so that it is on the same level surface, close to the mouse and keyboard.

4. Replace the batteries with a fresh set of alkaline batteries and make sure they are correctly installed. If the mouse or keyboard is not working, then replace the batteries, even if the mouse/keyboard software indicate the batteries still have a charge.
Remove the battery cover to access the batteries. For keyboards, the battery access cover is found on the underside of the keyboard. When replacing the batteries look for the positive symbol (a plus sign +) imprinted near the battery compartment or battery cover. Make sure the positive end of the battery is oriented to the positive side of the compartment.

If you have a USB receiver, unplug the USB receiver, wait 10 seconds, and then insert it into another USB port - preferably into a USB port that is closer to the mouse and keyboard. For example, if the USB receiver was plugged into a USB port on the back of the computer, unplug it and plug it into a front USB port.
6.
Resync the wireless keyboard and mouse connections.

Resync the keyboard and mouse connections for receivers with a connect button .
Resynchronizing the keyboard and/or mouse causes the devices to reconnect to the receiver using new identification numbers.
NOTE: The following connection sequence must be completed within 60 seconds. If the sequence is not done in 60 seconds, start over.

Mouse suddenly stopped working


1: Make sure the battery or batteries in your mouse are good.
2: If there is a USB dongle plugged into a USB port on your computer, unplug it, wait 3 or 4 seconds and plug it back in.
3: If the above two steps don't work, shut down your computer completely and start it back up again.

Microsoft wireless mouse 3000; put in new battery, still nothing

try this: plug in the USB key & check for the green light. Then go to start, control panel, & double click mouse (with whatever mouse works). Check the hardware tab and see it the computer is recognizing that the mouse is there. If it is there, it should be working fine. If not, then perhaps you need to reinstall the USB port drivers. Sometimes this will happen when you've upgraded from 1.0 to 2.0 USB ports.

wireless keyboards and in wireless mouse devices, use the following methods in the order that they appear in.

Method 1: Try different ports loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); Warning If you have to change a PS/2 connection, shut off the computer, make the changes, and then restart the computer. Do not plug a PS/2 device in the PS/2 port while the computer is running.

To determine whether the problem is related to the ports on the computer, use only the two cables that are included with the wireless desktop receiver, or the single cable that is included with a mouse.
USB keyboard and USB mouse loadTOCNode(3, 'moreinformation'); If the USB cable is currently connected to a USB hub, disconnect the device from the hub, and then connect it to a USB port on the computer. If your device is already connected to a USB port on the computer, try to connect the device to a different USB port if one is available.

Note Only one USB connection to the computer is required, even if your device has two USB plugs. If the problem persists, disconnect other USB devices and connect only the USB plug from the receiver to a USB port on the computer.
PS/2 devices loadTOCNode(3, 'moreinformation'); If your devices are connected to PS/2 ports on the computer, verify that you have the following configurations: • Verify that the USB plug for your mouse is connected to the green USB-to-PS/2 adapter and that this adapter is plugged in the mouse PS/2 port on the computer. The mouse PS/2 port on the computer may also be green. If you are not sure which PS/2 port is the mouse PS/2 port, see the documentation that came with the computer. • Verify that the USB plug for the keyboard is connected to the purple USB-to-PS/2 adapter and that this adapter is plugged in the keyboard PS/2 port on the computer. The keyboard PS/2 port on the computer may also be purple. If you are not sure which PS/2 port is the keyboard PS/2 port, see the documentation that came with the computer.If you have to change your configuration, shut off the computer, make the changes, and then restart the computer. If your mouse or keyboard has both USB and PS/2 connections, try using the other connection.
PS/2 keyboard and USB mouse loadTOCNode(3, 'moreinformation'); Verify that the USB mouse is plugged in a USB port on the computer and that the purple keyboard PS/2 plug is connected to the purple PS/2 port on the computer. If you have to change the PS/2 connection, shut off the computer, make the changes, and then restart the computer.

Method 2: Install fresh batteries loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); Both the wireless keyboard and the wireless mouse rely on AA alkaline batteries for power. If the problem persists, install a fresh set of batteries in the device that you are experiencing problems with.

Method 3: Resynchronize your device to the receiver loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); To resynchronize the mouse or keyboard to the receiver, follow these steps.

Note When you synchronize the mouse or the keyboard with the receiver, put the device near the receiver and put other wireless keyboards and mouse more than six feet away. 1. Press the button on the receiver, and then verify that the light on the receiver starts to blink. 2. If a dialog box appears on the screen in several seconds, follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Otherwise, go to the next step. 3. Press and release the Connect Channel button on the bottom of your mouse or keyboard. 4. Check the green light on the receiver. A steady green light means the synchronization was successful. If the problem persists, try steps 1 through 4 again.

Clean the mouse lens loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); This problem may occur if you are using an optical or laser mouse and the lens on the mouse is dirty. To clean the lens of an optical or laser mouse, follow these steps: 1. Use a dry cloth to clean the bottom surface of the mouse. 2. Check to see whether the mouse functions correctly. 3. If you see dust on the bottom of the mouse, use a can of pressurized de-ionized air to blow away the dust on the lens. 4. Check to see whether the mouse functions correctly. 5. If the pressurized air canister is not available, blow dry air on the lenses by using your mouth one or two times. 6. Check to see whether the mouse functions correctly. 7. If these steps do not resolve the problem, use a cotton bud to clean the lens without scratching it.
