Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Untold probs with connection speed. The only thing that does any good is a factory reset. My isp (talktalk) have identified and sorted a line problem but I was still getting poor (.18mb) download speed until I did the factory reset. Switching off and rebooting does not seem to help

Hi,
If the line issue doesn't fix the connectino problem, try considering the specification of your computer. The one that you should be looking for is the RAM value of your computer. if it using lower then 1gb, try updating the memory on the computer. you can also try to use other avaialable browsers like firefox, or google chrome.
Cheers!!

Belkin FSD7632-4 v8 wireless router will not connect to my ISP

It should be ok aslong as it is in sync. Can you tell me what router settings your using for talktalk? It should be PPPoA, Vc Mux, Mtu of 1432, Idle of 0. Ip assigned by isp is yes. Also make sure your username and password is correct. The username is going to be
yourphonenumber@talktalk.net and password is as provided by talktalk. IF your getting stable sync on the belkin the distance and noise levels shouldnt be causing an issue.

When i changed my isp from talktalk to sky broadband my dell 1450 adaptor can not connect even though there is a connection via ethernet cable apparently dell say it is a software problem and want to...

When it says 'Conntected: 100Mbps" on the bottom, all it's saying is that you have a physical connection between your computer and the device it's talking to.
Now one thing you need to double check is that (I assume you have a wireless router) the router or whatever device you have connecting to your ISP modem has the correct network information. For example some ISPs will give you a static IP address that you have to manually add to your router. If TalkTalk does that, and Sky doesn't, make sure your router is automatically obtaining an IP address. This should connect you to your ISP and to the internet. Then your DELL machine should get an IP address from your router and then you should be good to go.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Can i use talktalk with btvision

If you mean can you run the BT Vision service using a TalkTalk broadband connection, no you cannot.

BT Vision runs on BTs network only, it speaks to its own servers which you wil not be able to connect across another ISPs network.

Can`t get full access to the net on TalkTalk with 2wire 2700hgb

You did everything correctly so far, and your 2wire is getting the signal and info it needs. The unable to contact config server error is not a problem, as thats just 2wires update server, which wont hurt anything if not found. The password defaults back to 8 because of security issues, its still the same one you entered, so thats fine also. Now one thing you should try is the only thing different about the 2 routers. The 2wire has a built in firewall in it, try turning it off for your computer. Click on the firewall tab, then firewall settings. Select your computer and put the dot in DMZ mode and save it. Then restart the pc and see if it works after that. Other then that it could be a problem with the 2wire itself, since you are authenticating fine with your Internet provider.

You need to contact your ISP. I have never heard of TalkTalk, but if its a DNS problem, its your ISP.

Been given 1 but its virgin but my isp is with talktalk, will it work?

Virgin is a cable provider. They give you a cable modem in to which you can plug the router using a network (RJ45) connection. This router is an ADSL modem router.

In other words, it could NOT have been used on Virgin, but it should work with Talk Talk as it is a standard ADSL connection.

Reset the Router back to factory default and enter your details.

Wireless settings

TalkTalk technical support need to give you that info as anything you get from the 'internet' is likely to be outdated or incorrect.. or both! The details should have been in the welcome letter that's sent to every new sign-up.

Cannot finish installation (Belkin F5D8633-4 wireless modem router N mimo)

ok, obvious questions first:

Do you have a different modem from TALKTALK? can you connect to the internet through that?

if so, you may not have to set a username and password for the belkin router: just connect the belkin router's internet port to the talktalk modem and let the talktalk modem handle the automatic connection.

do you know what protocol the talktalk ISP uses?  it's probably PPPOE; make certain that your belkin router is set to the correct protocol.  if you just hook it up to the talktalk modem though, you probably won't have to specificy a protocol at all.
