Question about Nikon Speedlight SB-800 TTL Flash

1 Answer

Zoom range 14-17mm

Hi, my problem is: my SB800 accidentally works in zoom range 14-17mm when previously the whole range was available. How can I switch it back to standard range 24-105mm? I’m using Nikon lens 18-70mm.

Thank you, Meg

Make sure the diffusion dome and the built in wide angle adaptor are off. If the diffusion dome is on, it will only work as 14mm and 17mm without the diffuser but with the wide angle panel.

My kenmore 46745 or 46749 (both models listed on the manual) door is jammed. I accidentally opened the oven door, stopping a cleaning cycle after only 15 seconds, and now the door will not close...the lock...

Hi,

If you've interrupted the clean cycle or have accidentally set the clean cycle with the oven door open, the latch may have engaged and now the door can't be closed because it will hit the latch. There may be a door activated switch on the front face of the oven. In this case you may need to manually press that door switch with your finger while at the same time canceling the clean cycle to get the latch to retract so the door can close fully again.

Shooting with a Nikon zoom such as 18-200 with a Nikon SB800 flash on a Nikon D300 body. I make an exposure of a person and the result is exceptable and then I zoom to the whole group of five people and it...

Depends on the zoom length. If you check exposure at zoom 18 mm then zoom to (lets say) 100 for the final picture the flash will zoom concentrating the flash power as well; the flash gets stronger. This is all explained in the SB-800 manual. On a zoom such as the 18-200 the more you zoom the smaller the f/stop. You are better off with a zoom that maintains its f/stop through the entire zoom range. That way when you check exposure at 18 mm lets say f/2.8 then zoom in it will maintain the same f/stop. Myself I am not a big fan of zooms especially ones when zoomed change to a smaller f/stop.

You might try cleaning the lens contacts lightly with an eraser. Make sure they are all springy to the touch. If this doesn't solve the problem, then new circuitry may be required.

Distance problems

I don't think it is possible to diagnose this problem, so this is just a suggestion.  After checking out your website, I'm pretty sure that you know how to work your equipment so I think the usual dribble about making sure the flash isn't on manual, etc.  Well, that wasn't the suggestion, this is.  Take a cotton swab and clean the contacts on the lens with isopropyl alcohol. If the cause of your problem is a bad contact, that should take care of it.  If it doesn't work, I'd send the lens back straight away - because if this doesn't work, then who knows what is going to go wrong next.
Good luck
