You can press the & button at the acer logo to start the factory restore if its got a recovery partition.

when you do a factory recovery you WILL LOSE ALL DATA ON THE DRIVE, so you would need to backup and music or pictures you would want to keep

Just go to the 'help' screen from the 'start' menu and input 'recovery' console so that you can go to the factory settings for free. All data should be backed up before doing this, though, because 'recovery' brings the computer back to the way the computer was when it was new.

You'll also need the administrator password and be in the administrative account to do the 'recovery' console thing.

Hi,

It appears that the Computer is trying to load application during startup, I would advise a complete wipe and reset it to fatory setting, you can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction.

NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer.

Thanks and regards,
Jitha

Hi i put my acer aspire 6920 through a restore to fatory settings, it restarted itself and now it starts up as fair as the logo and then all that happens is a flashing line in the left hand corner please...

The BIOS can't locate the boot loader so windows can't be booted. It's a bad install, do the recovery procedure again. If it fails again then the hard disk is defective, replace it before reinstalling one more time.

To reset your laptop to its factory state you need to restart or turn it on, then just tap F10, It will ask you on how would you loke to restore then select Restore system to factory settings. Usually it would ask you for a password just etern six zeros "000000" it should work. Please wait until the restore process is completed.

Hi Sue
Kids are great aren't they? The magic combo you are looking for is alt and f10 (thats the f10 key - not f, 1 and 0). You need to press down the alt key and f10 simultaneously while the ACER screen is up.

The manual for your laptop can be found at this link. http://www.scribd.com/doc/2505575/Acer-Aspire-Laptop-manual

The instructions for the recovery are located on page 25. There is also a notice there that disk to disk recovery must be enabled in the bios for it work. The instructions are there to verify if this is so. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
