Question about Canon PIXMA MP620 All-In-One InkJet Printer
You probably broke the sensor that detects "paper is jammed",
such that it is returning that signal even when it should NOT be returning that signal.
Find the sensor -- maybe, it is something "mechanical" that is just "stuck" in the "wrong" position, and "clearing" that sensor will reset it to "no-jam" status.
Or, replace the printer, since it probably would be more expensive for a printer-technician to repair, than to replace it.

I have the same problem. I wanted to have somewhere for my cat Jerry to climb, but I just don't have any floor space to spare. Try a cat wall shelf that attaches to your wall. You could even buy a few and create a walkway.
