Power to unit,no lights on control panel, power to the transformers & capacitors

    This is an electric heat pump there is no gas. I have no power light temp light control panel completely black. Have 24v to the control panel

If there is power to the unit and too the control board and to the transformer but control panel doesn't respond, then the panel is bad.

Read this I am sure this will help.
All swimming pool heaters have what we refer to as the control loop. This is a simple circuit (think school science fair, with the battery, switch, and light) that goes through a number of safety controls. Only if all the safety switches are enabled will the heater turn on, or "fire" and begin to heat the water. As stated the most common issue is the pressure switch, but let’s start from the beginning.
All heater control circuits run on electricity. Your heater will have one of two power sources, live voltage from a breaker box, or millivolts that your heater makes on its own. If you have a standing, always on pilot light that is manually lit, you have a millivolt unit. The heat from the flame heats two dissimilar metals in a bulb next to the pilot that produces the milli-voltage (less than 1 volt) to run the gas valve and control circuit.
Millivolt pool heaters have lost ground to electronic pool heaters. These heaters are supplied with power that runs through a transformer as it enters the heater. The reduced voltage, usually 24 volts, is then sent into a control module, aka IID or Fenwal. This gray box disperses power to the control circuit. Once you have established you are getting power through the transformer (24 volts) or from the Pilot Generator, aka thermopile, (400-600 mv), then we "follow" the power with our multi-meter. We are looking for a Voltage Drop at any one of the components in the heater.
You will need to follow the power to each safety switch. The first one is the pressure switch. This “switch” makes sure water is flowing through the unit before it will let the pool heater turn on. This means you must have the pump on and a clean filter for this switch to close and allow voltage to pass through. With a multi-meter, you should get voltage reading through the pressure switch if it’s working right.
A word on bypass valves. Most pool heaters have an internal bypass valve that is located in the front header of the heater (where the pipes go in and out). This spring loaded device allows excess water pumped into the heater to return, immediately, right out of the heater, without being heated. This is necessary to keep the optimum flow of water through the heat exchanger. Too much flow can cause condensation, erosion, and poor performance. If you have a high flow pool pump, you may want to consider installing an external bypass. This is a plumbing manifold that diverts a percentage of water "around" the heater, bypassing it back to the pool.
Pressure switches and other heater components can be tested by "jumping out" the switch. By using a jumper wire, or sometimes a screwdriver to make good contact with both terminals on the pressure switch, on/off switch, hi-limits, this will bypass the switch. With the on/off switch is on, thermostat up, water flowing, etc., hold a jumper wire on both terminals for 2 or 3 seconds (be careful of flame roll-out). If the heater fires, this may indicate a bad switch, but first make sure that the switch is not just doing it's job of telling you that the water flow is insufficient.
The next stop for the power is to the high limit switches. Most heaters have two high limits and they will are usually located side-by-side on the outlet manifold. These are designed to turn the heater off if it gets too hot. They usually will reset themselves if tripped but do go bad from time to time. If your high limits go bad, there could be an issue with the bypass valve in the in/out header causing the unit to overheat.
From the high limits the power then goes to the thermostat. This is what controls the heater and lets the unit know what temperature to heat up to. When testing your heater, turn the thermostat all the way up. You should find voltage going in and out of this if the probe that goes to the in/out header is working properly.
The next safety switch inline is the fusible link. These sense heat near the gas valve. If the flame from the burners comes into the front of the heater (flame roll out), a small wax pellet inside the link melts, breaking the circuit. The fusible link cannot be reset and if yours has failed, the heater may have a blockage of the burners or improper venting / exhaust from the top of the heater. Be sure to check all possible causes for this, as it could indicate a hazardous situation.
Next the electric goes to the gas valve and, depending on if you have a 24 volt electronic heater or a millivolt heater, the power then goes to an electric ignition box or IID that will light the pilot.
Checking the safety circuit is a good place to start, you should get power into and out of every safety switch in order for the heater to come on. On the newer electronic heaters, many have a circuit board that will give you an error code telling you what switch is not working keep the heater from coming on. Check in your owners manual for a list of error codes.
Be sure to be careful working around gas pool heaters as they can be deadly dangerous! Do not bypass safety circuits to operate the heater, or you could be creating a very costly future repair. For more info on heaters and how they work, please check out our pool heater info pages.

I want to know what is the secondary voltage of transformer inside PC control panel ?


You have not mentioned the details of the machine in question. All you need is to check on the LT ( low voltage side ) of the transformer to find the secondary voltage which will be about 20 to 30 % less than the DC voltage shown on the capacitor on the board. If there are more windings then you can get the primary rewound without any changes to the secondary that must help to solve.

there is a fuse on the board which is very hard to see it is a three amp automotive style fuse most people cant find it it is purple in color look very closely using a flashlight

Have a goodman central air unit, non heat pump. keeps smoking transformers, on the inside unit, replaced fan capacitor and transformer as the old transformer was smoked as well. But to no avail the new...


There is a short in the control wiring that needs to be tracked down. Ohm the wiring to the low voltage controls, ie thermostat wiring and thermostat. Try disconnecting the thermostat wires to rule out the problem in the control wiring to the thermostat or thermostat itself, then install a new transformer without connecting the thermostat wiring, jump the red and green wire at the unit low voltage connections to test blower, and then add yellow for compressor, should be no more than 3 amps on control side wiring with A/C on.
If the problems still exists without the thermostat wiring connected then there is a problem in the wiring in the unit or control board itself.

The stove will not turn on. Nothing lights up. Could this be the To8 control. I would hate buy this item and not fix the problem because it cost $129.00.


Have you verified that you have power coming in? If the oven light doesn't come on, check your breaker panel, then check the plug to make sure it wasn't burned out by a bad contact. (Even if the light works, it's possible the controller is powered by the opposite leg of the 240 VAC plug, so the plug could still be the problem).

If I had this situation, and didn't see any problems with the input wiring, I would unplug the stove and do continuity checks on the internal wiring, starting from the power cord, using my digital multimeter. In particular, I would check for continuity through the controller transformer.

If you do not find an open circuit or bad connection, the next step would be to inspect the controller for visible signs of failure. In particular, look at the electrolytic capacitors. (These are metal cylinders with plastic sleeves. The sleeves have a stripe with minus signs printed on it to indicate polarity, and have the size, temperature, and voltage rating printed on the remaining area of the sleeve.) If the capacitor sleeve shows discoloration from overheating or if the capacitor is bulging at the top or bottom or shows signs of leakage, replace it. You will need to know how to unsolder and solder parts on a printed circuit board, or know somebody who can do this. The new capacitor will probably cost less than $2. Electrolytic capacitors in the power supply filter the transformer voltage after it is converted to DC; the controller circuit won't work with unfiltered power. This is the most common failure in electronic circuits powered off the line.

If you don't see any visible problems, measure the voltage on the secondary side of the controller transformer to make sure it is working (be careful where you put your hands and feet - you need ths stove plugged in with the back removed to do this). You should measure somewhere between 5 and 24 Volts AC; I don't know what it should be for this particular model (it may be marked on the transformer). If you are confident that you can identify the filter capacitor and can safely put your voltmeter leads on it, you can measure AC voltage on it. If you have more than a couple of volts AC, the capacitor is probably going bad. The DC voltage on the capacitor should be roughly the same or up to 1.4 times higher than the transformer secondary's AC voltage.

If you have good power on the controller board, and it still doesn't work, then it's time to consider replacing it.

I have a Samsung microwave model SMH7177STE/BE. Will only heat a few minutes before and shut off, now there is no heat. I am a licensed elect. but no experience with microwaves and having difficulty...


Its tripping a high limit most likely. Be careful there is 2100 to 4000 volt high side with a capacitor if its not an inverter. The standard components consist of noise board, fuse, touch panel and power controller, high limits, door switches, whipper motor, fan, transformer, capacitor, transformer, magnetron, diode, plate rotator.
Discharge cap (for safety and further testing).. Test fuse; if fuse tests blown test door switches first. Test limits. Check amp draw with slow blow fuse; open door to stop unit and again discharge capacitor. Test resistance to ground on whipper, fan, magnetron, light. Test resistance lead to lead (measurable on motors/coils/magnetron). Test capacitor in ferrads, compare to spec on print. Check diode forward and reverse. Test output voltage from power control board to transformer. Test transformer coils.
Best of luck and play safe; dont test voltage output from the transformer, voltage at capacitor or magnetron.

Blows 10amp fuse. Speaker 1&2 50volt ps capacitor burst open at top. Disconnected that amp from ps and unit still lights light bulbs I have in series. I disconnected each amp one at a time and light...


Sounds as though you have a direct short in Primary Amplifier circuit. Have you dissasembled unit and ohmed out Transformer? Also Cooling fans that are high amperage draw that short out as well as you said Bad Capacitors. Try ESR meter on Caps.

Microwave runs but doesn't heat


If there is no noise at all, this suggests that the power transformer isn`t receiving power from the timer/control panel. If you do hear a little buzz when you operate the microwave, The timer/control panel is operating, However It could be a few things which if you are confident enough to tackle, could be sorted by you but bear in mind that microwave ovens can store a lethal amount of voltage which can kill, about 2000 volts for a year or so. Possible causes of your fault are the Magnetron, Power transformer, Capacitor, Diode or even the control panel that provides power for the power transformer if you don`t hear the buzz. Have you got a meter?? Yes? Switch it to X10 ohms. Next, Unplug from the power socket and remove the casing, discharge the high voltage capacitor with a pair of well insulated snipe nosed pliers covered in a thick dry towel. Next, place the meter leads between the capacitor where the thick lead enters, and the casing of the oven. Does the meter read anything? No? You need to find out if the transformer is receiving power from the timer/control panel. If it is, the Magnetron will be US or the heater supply is missing to the magnetron. If the meter reads, The diode/capacitor or magnetron is short circuit. Disconnect the thick leads which are connected to the capacitor, Check for leakage across the capacitor again, Yes? Magnetron OK. Some diodes are built into the capacitor. On models where the diode is visible, (A black device going from the capacitor to a screw holding it to the casing), either unscrew the screw or disconnect the connector on the capacitor, now read the capacitor connector, if OK, no reading, Diode US, If there is a reading, the capacitor is US. If there`s still no reading, read the lead which you removed from the capacitor which goes to the Magnetron, If it reads, the Magnetron is Short Circuit. To check the heater, connect your meter across the two connectors on the magnetron, If it reads, the heaters are OK, read across the two wires that you revoved from the magnetron, if it reads, the Transformer is OK, if not, a new Transformer is reqiured. If not, they are O/C, New magnetron required. I hope this helps, Ian

you say it keeps blowing the transformer? you mean circuit breaker? if it is the circuit breaker, have the wiring checked for a short, if no short do a ohm test on the compressor. it may have shorted out internaly.

Hood lights


This is a problem with the control board, which we commonly repair for $32.50. This is caused by not disconnecting the microwave from the power line when removing or installing a bulb.
