I have a Whirlpool Duet frontloading washer. It will not complete a cycle. It flashes F02. We've checked the drains and cleaned it all out AND replaced the pump. It ran one cycle fine and is now showing F02 again. Any suggestions?

  • Anonymous Sep 02, 2010

We have checked all the suggested things as kinks in drain, electric at pump etc as stated in the manual. They are all clear and we have even installed a new pump and double checked all above and are still getting F02. Any NEW ideas??

F02 is long drain.

If that does not help, disconnect power, check hose attached to drain pump (filter housing).
Here in detail the parts to be tested:

* Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked

* Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
* Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects

• If the above does not correct the problem replace the pump

If still no luck, go through the diagnostic below, and see if there are additional codes installed.
A Suds code will be normal consequence of the F02.
A common occurrence is a defective lid switch together with the drain problem.
The lid switch can be tested running a cycle with switch jumped, after resetting the code.

Diagnostic Test:

NOTE: Washer must be empty and the control must be in the

OFF state.

1. Close the door.

2. Select any one key (except "Stop/Cancel" and Control

Lock (EOC) and follow the steps below, using the same

key:

Press/hold for 2-5 seconds

Release for 2-5 seconds

Press/hold for 2-5 seconds

Release for 2-5 seconds

Press/hold for 2-5 seconds

3. Upon release, all yellow/green console LED lights will turn

ON for 5 sec.

4. If there are any failure codes stored by the washer the

display shows them.

Note: the last 4 errors will be displayed.

5. Press the same key to advance to the next code.

6. After the indication of error codes, the UI ,CCU and MCU

SW version will be displayed.

7. All green console LED lights will turn ON for 5 seconds.

8. Next washer begins the automated diagnostic test.

9. To cancel out of service mode press "stop" button.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description, you are indeed looking in all the right places when you said..."We've checked the drains and cleaned it all out AND replaced the pump"

You may have a "stuck" or "sticky" back flow ball inside the bellows from the tub to the pump.

It will look like this if you first undo the large clamp...

I have a Whirlpool Duet - c60c9f0.jpg
**watch when putting this above clamp back on you are over the "lip" of the tub, you don't want it slipping off when full of water...potentially quite a mess.**

Then pull the bellows from the tub, you'll now be able to observe the back flow ball...usually pretty "gunked" up and dirty.

This may cause it to stick, hence inhibiting a proper drain...

5c285f0.jpg
Take the bellow's right out and clean it in a sink thoroughly under hot water and white vinegar or mild detergent.

I'd suggest this for the pump as well if you haven't already through your fairly thorough diagnosis process.

If you go to all these length's yet the pump continues not to drain the unit I would be looking to replace the pump.

I've had in my experience, a pump which appears to move the impeller while observing it empty with the filter out so I can see it, yet when under the weight of the water against it will not pump it out.

Hope this helps move you forward and in fact solves the issue. These are all my own images which I capture on the job, so they are "real world" scenarios, not just some hypothetical possibilities.

Let me know how you make out, I'll watch for your progress report.

Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. F/02 error means Long Drain. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes, the water valves are turned off and "F/02" is flashed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.

  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
  • Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
  • Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
  • If the above does not correct the problem, replace the pump.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display. If still its not resolved and you have already replaced the pump then check the wire harness connecting the drain pump and the CCU. Also check the drain pump motor and replace the part that has gone bad. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

    Thanks

What is code message F02?

Repairing the F02 error code can usually be done without ordering parts. Tools needed to repair your whirlpool Duet F02 error code are towels and a quarter inch socket.
Tip the washer back at a 45 degree angle. On the bottom panel there are three or four screws, with the screws removed the panel will slide down and off. With the lower access panel now removed you will have access to the washers drain pump clean out.
With the water already bailed from the washer you can twist the filter head counter-clockwise to remove. Twisting the filter head counter-clockwise will loosen filter so it can be pulled out.
With the filter out clean and install it back into washer.
Run a quick cycle to ensure the washer is back up and running and the F02 error has disappeared. If the error comes back, it may require you to clean the drain pump filter again.
If you require a new drain pump motor, you can purchase the part from the link below.

Whirlpool front loader duet hd washer gets stuck in the wash cycle with the error code of F02. What is F02 mean?

Whirlpool Duet front-load washer F02 usually means it is taking over 8 minutes for the washer to sense that the rinse or wash water has drained, which either means that the drain/filter is clogged or the pressure switch/tube is clogged (causing both the washer to over-fill with water and not sensing that water has drained).

To clear out the drain/filter, tilt the washer backwards a little for easier to the kick-plate and support the front bottom with a wood block or similar, remove the front kick-plate's (3) retaining screws and swing the kick-plate up out of the way. The filter drain is behind the white knob in the center, be prepared with something to catch any remaining water and lots of towels to soak up any spills, and turn the knob counter-clockwise to remove the filter.

What does F-02 flashing on the display of my Whirlpool Duet washer mean?

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

F02 is a drain error in your Kenmore washer, if the unit is unable to drain then after 4 minutes it will display suds and then F02. The first thing that should be done is cleaning the drain hose and the drain pump filter, you can take out three torx screws from the bottom front panel and then clean the area completely, lift up the cap to clean the filter. If the error returns then check the drain pump if it is not working then replacing the pump is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.
