Wiring motherboard to a atx tower

The motherboard manual will give you a breakdown of the cast-to-motherboard connections for the board. They differ slightly from board to board, but the connections are almost always found at the bottom front corner of the motherboard. There will be connections for the hard drive LED, the power LED, the power switch, the reset switch, and on some, the speaker (optional). The power switch and the reset switch connectors , 2-pin plugs, are not polarized, meaning that they can be connected to their pins either way without issue. The Power and HDD LED plugs are polarized, as LEDs have a positive and negative. Get this plug backward and the LED won't work. These are also 2-pin plugs. The power LED usually has a green and white wire (Green is +) and the HDD is usually red and white (Red is +) . Some motherboards have color-coded pins -- DO NOT TRUST THEM IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MANUAL -- they are not always standardized. Some motherboards have small print on the board adjacent to the pins to identify them. You CAN trust these. Otherwise, go to the Motherboard manufacturers site and get the manual for the board. The model number is on the board and can be searched for. If the manufacturer's name is not obvious, Google the model number and it will usually lead you to the manufacturer.

I need the wiring diagram for emachine model D6405

Usually it is in very small print right on the motherboard next to the pins, use a flashlight and/or a magnifier to see what order the pins go in. The hard drive light will say HDD, power will say PWR, etc.

Can anyone tell me what type of motherboards are on Acer Aspire M3641 desktops? It is written in paint, on the motherboard, only: "Micro-Star" (MSI, I think), N1996 (Australian standard for FCC...

IF, and I stress IF, you decide you simply want to replace the motherboard, get one that matches your processor socket, and be super careful when removing, cleaning, and replacing it.
The question will be, will your new motherboard fit in your case. Simply get one with similar specs as your current one.
most MSI products fit inside of an acer case though.

Hookup of front panel lights and reset switch

Look on your motherboard. the pins have very small writing so use a strong lite. Your motherboard manufactures web site should have the manual. The manual will give pin locations and how to install.

Here's a picture of the connection I think you're looking for:
http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/msi_p6n_sli_platinum/images/fp_headers.jpg
The JFP1connection is the one you need. I dont know where it is located on your motherboard because you didnt provide a model number, but if you find a connector with JFP1 written next to it, you should see names like HDD(harddisk led), pwr(pwer led) and so on. Then all you need to do is plug your cables in, for the leds it doesnt matter which cable goes onto which pin, for the power switch you should check the cables for + and - .
I also suggest you read the motherboard and tower manuals again.

I hope this helps,
Yannick
