This is usually a problem associated with the blu ray laser, sometimes if you use a lens cleaner disc it can sort it out but sometimes this will just not work.
If it does not work you may find that you have to replace the blu ray drive unfortunately.
As a quick test you could re-initialise the display by turning the PS3 off into standby, press the power button and hold it, wait for the second beep (the first beep will happen when you first press the button to turn it on) and let go when you hear the second beep. The display will reset.

Hi! The fan may not be working very well. When used for a long time the unit tends to crash for there is not enough air to cool down the console. You may want to have it repaced to resolve the problem. HOpe this helps and thank you for using FixYa!
