My LG DLE2514 dryer will not spin. So if I start a load, I hear the engine hum but the drum does not spin. If I open the front door and press the sensor down, which fools the machine that the door is open, then proceed to turn the drum manually; the drum begins to spin. The spin of the drum at this point can take a laundry load. What can it be?

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on what you`re describing it sounds like a faulty motor for sure.

If the motor cannot turn the drum under it`s own, it may simply have "gunked" or dirty bearings which can impede the motor from starting.

If you are capable of taking the unit apart ( done from the front...not back ) you may be able to clean it out and oil the bearings as a "fix", but eventually the motor will need to be replaced.

You`ll also want to try and run the motor without the belt/drum attached to see if it will indeed start that way and make sure the belt isn`t "slipping".

**unplug the unit before servicing...safety first**

My LG DLE2514 dryer will not spin. So if I start - 982638e.jpg

It should be available at most local brick & mortar appliance part locations or online vendors like "searspartdirect.com" "repairclinic.com" to name a couple.

Let me know how you make out or if you require further assistance.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Makes a humming noise but doesn't turn

Try this, open the dryer door and hold down the door light switch. Turn on the dryer and press start. When you hear the motor humming, turn the drum clockwise with your hand to see if it will turn. If itruns, you have a bad motor and will need to be replaced. If it doesn't turn, something is jammedinside and you will need to disassemble the unit to find the jam.
Hope this helps.

My dryer won't start. When i activate the start switch I hear a hum like the motor is bound up.. I opened the top and the drum is not stuck and the belt seems in good shape. The unit is about 4 years...

check the blower wheel sometimes objects get caught in it not allowing it to spin. If it is clean open the dryer door push and hold the door switch and push start while it is humming rotate the drum. if it starts to spin then you need a new motor it will run you probably 150 - 200 dollars

Dryer makes loud humming noise but drum doesn't turn when I push start.

Check to see if the drum will turn by hand. If so, leave the door open but push the light switch button down and start the unit. Once you hear the humming sound, manually turn the drum with your hand to start. If the drum turns normally, you have a bad motor and needs to be replaced. If the drum does not turn, something is jamming the motor and needs to be disassembled and inspected.
Good luck

The drum makes a humming noise when it rotates i beieve it may have dirt around it how do i access it to clean it out

Interesting question.

Humming may be from the motor or incidental belt noise. There is a felt bearing on the drum where it rides on the front panel and this felt bearing can get dirty. I'm not convinced it would make a humming sound.

Tell me, what tune is it humming?

Kidding, sorry.

If you want to open your machine, generally speaking, dryer tops are held down with spring clips. To remove, pop the top by prying it up. Be careful you don't damage the finish. Front panels are generally held in place with spring clips and/or screws or tabs. Take appropriate action and remove the front. Be cautions of the door switch wires. The drum will come free and fall to the floor. Do what ever maintenance you feel needs to be done and reassemble. You may want to replace the belt while you are inside. I recommend you take pictures before you take the drum out of the cabinet paying particular attention to how the belt is driven through the tensioner on the floor and around the motor pulley. A cell phone with camera is particularly useful for this purpose.

Find replacement belts at a FixYa.com advertiser, local applliance parts place, LG website or www.repairclinic.com

Humming, but no spinning

It could be the capacitor which kick starts the motor.

they are relatively cheap to replace.

Humming sound

If you open the door can you turn the inner drum by hand , if you can is any there any resistance or does it just spin freely

It sounds as if your drive belt has snapped and what you hear is the motor running on its own

If the drum spins freely you will need to take the back off the machine and see what state the drive belt is in

Ps

Is there heat inside the drum when you try to make it work without a load.
