It could be several things
check the needle to see if bent-roll on flat surface to see if it roll correctly
if the needle makes a popping sound when it penetrates the fabric is blunt
check to make sure the needle is not in backwards
check upper tension it may be to tight
thread may be hanging up in bobbin area-clean bobbin case area for lint or loose threads
check to make sure the thread is not caught somewhere
try using different thread

Upper thread keeps braking

Usually thread breakage is a result of incorrect threading or the thread tension set too tight.

Install a brand new needle.

Remove the upper thread. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning (verify the threading sequence is correct).

Check that the tension is set at the midway point between the high and low numbers.

Retest. If still breaking, there are other less common problems (thread/needle incompatibility, burrs or knicks catching the thread, etc) that may be the cause. Check the following web sites:

The thread keeps on breaking. I want to have the machine serviced. How often must it be done and where?

How old is your thread? Old thread will break fairly easy, also you want just enough drag to keep the thread from over feeding but not so tight it will brake thread

Hi - not an expert but from my own experience would look at two main possibilities, a) thread tension is too tight or b) the needle holder has got out of alignment

Braking thred

Chance the needle making sure it is aligned when you tighten it. Check the bobbin to see if it is bound up by thread and the last thing is try another bobbin.

Thred keeps braking

It might be tension to tight, threaded wrong or the bobin isn't thread the right way.
