Question about Frigidaire GLRS237ZA Side by Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

We removed the ice and water disperser device from the front of the refrigerator to reattach the push arm for the water, but when we tried to reattach it and plugged the electrical connector back in, the ice dispenser just keeps running as if the relay switch thinks it is on all the time. Even tho the push arm for the ice dispenser is not engaged.

If the valve is letting water by or there is too much water pressure, then why doesnt the water relay switch stay on as well. We are on city water and I do not believe there is too much pressure. It would seem to be quite the coincidence for the solenoid to start letting water by exactly the same time we disconnect the dispenser.

Hi,

The ice dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water.
But in your case these are the cause.
1)This problem could occur due to faulty control board. If you have ohm multimeter you can test with it whether they show any readings or not.If there is no changes then you have to go for it.
2)Loose contact in the wires to the control board.Basically the ice dispenser keeps running because of the valve may be leaking, control board, defective relay switch.
3)Relay switch should be checked with multimeter. It should show proper reading.
When the switch is on it keeps on sending the water.Usually the relay circuit will open only for 7 seconds then it cuts off.See the time the circuit is open

If you don't have hands on repair please call the service center person it will cost less
don't mess with control board it will cost you more.

post a comment for further assistance.

Thank you for using fixya have a nice day:-)

Hi

Check the back of the unit where the solenoid valves are located. Whats happening is the valve is leaking by or there is too much water pressure. It is suggested to replace the valve.

I have an LG side by side refrigerator. It won't stop making ice. The arm on the front of the tray is all the way up and it won't go down. It stays up all the time. Any suggestions

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/ replace the ice maker would be the simplest. If you're a good DIY'er, shut off the water to the icemaker, remove the maker and try your skills at troubleshooting the unit. The timer on the icemaker is suspect as it controls the water valve. The wire bail you mention only tells the ice maker that the tray is full and to stop making ice by stopping the timer until you push the bail back down. My guess is that the timer motor failed and stopped just as the water was turned on, BAD TIMER!

Icemaker not working

In order to keep your refrigerator's ice maker working properly, there are some components that will require routine maintenance and inspection. Some of the most common problems that can occur with your ice maker are the ice maker not making any ice, making too much ice and not shutting off, the ice tasting bad, ice cubes too small or discolored and ice cubes not ejecting from the ice maker. Checking your ice maker for potential problems on a regular basis will keep it operating efficiently.

1.Inspect the water supply line for any signs of cracking or crimps in the line. A pinched water supply line can keep the water from getting to the ice maker, resulting in no ice or smaller than desired ice cubes. Check to verify that the water supply valve is open enough to provide an adequate supply of water to the ice maker.

2. Flush out the water supply lines if you are noticing a bad taste in the ice cubes. This can be done by disconnecting the lines and running hot water through them. Turn on the hot water at the kitchen sink and place one end of the water supply line near the tap, holding it in place to allow hot water to run through it. Place the other end of the supply line in the sink to allow the water to drain through.

3 Reattach the water supply lines to the water supply and refrigerator. Repeat step 2 for the water inlet hose which runs from the inlet valve to the ice maker. If the water supply lines are old or discolored, consider replacing them with new water supply lines.

4 Check the temperature in your freezer to verify that it is getting cold enough. The freezer's temperature should be at 5 degrees and can be set with a control dial, normally located in the refrigerator compartment of your appliance. To test the freezer's temperature, place a cup of cooking oil in the freezer with a cooking thermometer sitting in the cooking oil. Allow the oil to sit in the freezer for 2 hours and then check the temperature.

5 Check the ice maker's shutoff arm to verify that it is operating properly. To work normally, the shutoff arm should be in the lowered position. Inspect the arm for anything blocking it or preventing the arm from moving freely. Lift the arm up to see if the unit shuts off in the up position.

6 Unplug the refrigerator from the electrical outlet and remove the faceplate of the ice maker's shutoff switch with a screwdriver, located on the ice maker. Remove the entire ice maker unit from the freezer by undoing the screws that are holding it in place. Unplug the ice maker from the freezer and take it out of the freezer to work on.

7 Remove the mounting plate on the top of the ice maker by unscrewing the screws and lifting it off the unit. Locate the shutoff switch, which has three electrical wires attached to it. The shutoff switch is located directly under the shutoff arm of the ice maker. Pull the electrical wires off of the shutoff switch with needle-nose pliers and label them so you know how to put them back correctly.

8 Inspect the electrical terminals for any rust or corrosion. Use an electrical testing meter to verify that the shutoff switch is working properly. You should get a reading of 0 or infinity on the meter. If the shutoff switch is not giving a reading, replace it with a new switch and reattach the electrical wires to the switch.

9 Place the mounting plate back over the ice maker and attach it with screws, then reattach the entire ice maker unit to the freezer. Plug the ice maker wiring back into the freezer and put the face plate back over the front of the ice maker.

10 Plug the refrigerator back into the electrical outlet and allow the refrigerator to run for a couple hours. Inspect the ice maker to verify that it is working properly.

Hope this tips would help you.
Good day! : )

Ice maker not dispensing ice

If the dispensor light switches to cubed or crushed , the panel is good . Remove the ice bin , and hold the light switch in . Press the arm for CRUSHED ice , and if you hear a buzzing or hum , then the auger motor is frozen . Use a hair dryer directly on the " forks " for a while , ocasionally holding switch and activating arm , until the forks move . Lower the freezer temp slightly and reinstall the ice bin .

Can't make ice cubes only crushed ice

This happened to me. If you pull the ice bin out you will see a metal bar that extends from the front to back on the bottom of the bin. Find the square hole in the back of the freezer. Stick you finger in and slide the white plastic square up or down.
The switch you are moving is the toggle from crush to cube.

Kenmore Elite refrigerator won't stop making ice

sometimes when you pull the shelf in and out, it will bind on the shut off arm and cause it to "pull out" of the i/m module. the arm has to be put back into the back of the module. you can take the i/m out of the freezer or just use a mirror and look for the place the arm goes. it looks like a 1/4", round, white plastic slot. the arm just pushes into the white piece and thats what causes the i/m to shut off when full or when the arm is lifted up.

The ice maker in my whirlpool gold refrigerator Model No, GR2FHTXTBOO, is not working.

Hello jitkagardner,
Welcome

You said, The ice maker in my whirlpool gold refrigerator Model No, GR2FHTXTBOO, is not working.

How old is the fridge?
When have you last changed the water filter.
Should be down below at the front grille!
Try these tasks!

If the ice maker is not producing ice or not enough ice
Refrigerator connected to a water supply and the supply
shutoff valve turned on? Connect refrigerator to water
supply and turn water shutoff valve fully open.
• Kink in the water source line? A kink in the line can reduce
water flow. Straighten the water source line.
• Ice maker turned on? Make sure wire shutoff arm or switch
(depending on model) is in the ON position.
• New installation? Wait 24 hours after ice maker installation
for ice production to begin. Wait 72 hours for full ice
production.
• Freezer door closed completely? Firmly close the freezer
compartment door. If the freezer compartment door will not
close all the way, see "The doors will not close completely."
• Large amount of ice recently removed? Allow 24 hours for
ice maker to produce more ice.
• Ice cube jammed in the ice maker ejector arm?
Remove ice from the ejector arm with a plastic utensil.
• Water filter installed on the refrigerator? Remove filter and
operate ice maker. If ice volume improves, then the filter may
be clogged or incorrectly installed. Replace filter or reinstall it
correctly.
• Reverse osmosis water filtration system connected to
your cold water supply? This can decrease water pressure.

Let me know how it goes!
