Question about Vizio P2 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

2 Answers

My P42 keeps turning itself off. When I turn it back on, it will turn off again within a couple minutes. I can hear something like a relay clicking on & off several times. Sometimes it stays on for a few hours, other times it shuts off after a couple minutes. IIt's about 3 yrs old. Any suggestions?

Sounds logical, but I would also like a second opinion if possible.
    Thanks

Hi,

Disconnect the power supply for few minutes, say 30 minutes and then turn ON the TV.This would reset the TV. If you still see the same problem, it confirms a hardware failure.

As you could hear a clicking noise, it is more suggestive of a power supply problem. This a common problem on most of the Vizio's TV. You need to open the TV. Locate the power supply board. You would be able to find blown / bulged / leaked IC's. Take them out and re-solder the new one. ( you could get the caps from radio shack or even from fry's ).

I am pretty sure that it would solve the problem. If the problem still persists, revert and we could troubleshoot further.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

    Thanks for your response!!

1.Remove all screws from back of TV panel (yes even the small tiny ones near the bottom)

2.Remove 4 tiny screws around the input box area
Lift input box area straight up vertical and it will unseat from the two plugs under it, then remove exposed tiny screws

    3.
Lift the back metal panel off the TV completely and vacuum dust that
has collected on it and lay it some where that wont be disturbed.

4.Take a picture if possible so you reference where screws go and posts go.
    At
this point you'll freak out for a moment because you can't see the
board that you need to replace; don't worry, it's hidden under the main
board that would be right under the input box that we just removed.

5.Remove back support metal bar by removing two screws left and right.

    6.This
is where you need to be patient and remove the top main board by
disconnecting the plugs and screws that are the grounders.

Note - There could be many screws that you need to remove. This is not an easy job on this model. Be sure that you are aware unless you might damage your TV. If any of the clips broke or board mishandled, you might end up buying a new one. So, kindly make sure to remember the positioning of all the clips, screws and connectors.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Hello,

A common problem for this is a bad capacitors on the power supply board. This is why you are hearing the click sound and also turning off. There might also be some other bad component on the power supply board which is making it defective.

If you know about TV repairers, I would suggest that you open the TV and read the power board/panel with a meter, detect the bad component and replace it. Take note that TV stores a lot of current that can shock, so leave the TV for a while before you open it.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you.

Good luck.

Hi,
Either the relay is bad on the board or the motor has gone bad...what you are hearing is the transformer in there but it has nothing to do with the motor other then run the relays that turn on the motor...so... it could be a number of different things...relay, motor, or t-stat...you will have to have someone or you use an electrical meter and trace down the problem.

Remove the bottom front panel of the fridge and locate the defrost timer. This is a small circular motor with a screw slot in the center. Turn the slot CLOCKWISE ONLY and listen for a click. As soon as you hear the click stop, wait about five minutes and feel the walls of the freezer they should now be cold.If this happens again the timer will need to be replaced. Thank you, Dana

Fridge/Freezer keps turning itself off

Pull the refrig out and remove the back panel . If the fan motor , cooling the compressor is working , then the overload/relay is bad . This is the piece plugged onto the compressor , with 2 or 3 wires attached to it . You can easily replace . If you had given the brand and complete model number , I could have given you the part number .

If the fan is not running , the overload will click off , thereby , causing the compressor to get too hot , making the overload click off .
