There are check valves in the primer base assembly of your carb. They allow gas/air to flow in one direction but not the other. They can go bad and cause assorted problems, fuel movement to and from the carb being one. Remove the cover with the bulb and the fuel line to it. Liberally spray with WD-40 on the carb and into the fuel line itself. Put the bulb back on and "work it" a little to get the lubricant flowing to the right places. The WD-40 will also help clean this part of the carb. regular carb spray cleaners are way too strong and can damage the sensitive parts in these carbs. Don't use any and dont ever soak it in carb cleaner. Only spray clean it with non-flammable brake cleaner. Sounds funny but it works and won't hurt the delicate carb parts. Good luck because you may need to rebuild the thing even after it is cleaned.

Gas will not flow from tank to motor while running

Everybody had a crack at this problem, another thing would check is these engines sometimes have a primary fuel filter inside the tank itself. Drain the fuel and gently blow compressed air back through fuel line towards tank then rinse the tank out with fuel, refill and try run engine again

I need a routing of the fuel lines from filter to, primer-in, primer-out, to carburator, out of carburator, back to tank. this is on a poulan chainsaw, 2550. Mod 952-05138. please respond.MARRY CHRISTMAS.

There are two holes in the fuel tank, it does not matter which line goes to which hole. The lines should run as follows: One line from the tank should have a filter on it, connect this line to the primer bulb and put a mark on it with a sharpie. Another line should run from the bulb to the carb, and the last should run from the carb back into the tank. After they are all in place, pump the bulb and watch the gas in the marked line. If gas is flowing from the tank through the marked line into the bulb and on to the carb you are done. If gas is flowing towards the tank in the marked line or not at all reverse the two lines on the bulb and you're done.

Why does my primer bulb when pushed stay push in and won't retract? PE550 Weed Eater Carburator?

You may have a clogged in tank fuel filter, lines in the tank broken off of the fuel filter and line fragments clogging the fuel lines. . Fuel lines get flaky when they deteriorate. Your primer bulb may be leaking also. The check valves in the carburetor control the flow of fuel in and out of the primer bulb. The carb may need cleaning. In other words, a complete fuel system assembly inspection will be needed. If the bulb is on the carb, the check valves in the base assembly below it may be sticking. Remove bulb and spray in there with WD-40 to free frozen or sticking check valves. The valves are very small and malfunction occasionally
Start your inspection at the fuel tank and work your way to the carb. Pull the cover off the carb on the end opposite the end with the vent hole in the cover. You will be pulling off the fuel pump cover. Inside the carb body you will find a very small round fine mesh screen. Clean it well with carb cleaner and when you reassemble, spray some WD-40 in that area too.

Fuel dont get in carbruator put gas in the carb thru the choke it starts but dies .i put a new gasline in it and a new carb kit Why dose pressure build in the fuel tank i removed the fuel line and gas...

When you prime/puge your carburetor, make sure fuel (w/ no air) is moving from the fuel tank towards the body of the carb. Also, make sure that there is fuel/air bubbles leaving the primer bulb and going back towards the fuel tank...and that when you push the bulb down and release it, there is no fuel movement in either line. If fuel does move when letting up on the bulb, you either have the fuel lines reversed or, the check valves in the primer base assembly are not functioning. The primer/puge valve's funcion is to draw fresh fuel into the fuel pump side of the carb and to push old fuel/air from the metering chamber side of the carb back to the fuel tank. Here is proper fuel routing:
This is an ongoing issue for users, and rightfully so. Small diameter line out of fuel tank (has filter in-tank on end) connects to the side of the carburetor that has the fuel pump....that is the cover without the hole in it. Other larger diameter fuel line out of tank connects to the longer nipple on the external purge/primer bulb. The bulb "pulls" fresh fuel from the fuel tank to the carb and then out of the carb to itself, where it then pushes any air/old fuel back into the fuel tank. The remaining larger diameter fuel line in this setup goes from the metering chamber (has cover with writing on it and a vent-hole) side of the carburetor to the smaller nipple on the purge/primer bulb. Years ago on 2-stroke trimmers, primers were not even used,...you choked the carb with a slide lever and gravity let fuel enter the carb from above...a few pulls, a "pop"...slide it off of choke and away you went.
If the purge/primer bulb is on top of the carb...small line from carb body to small hole in tank with filter. Larger diameter line goes from the bulb on the fuel pump side of the carb to the larger hole in the fuel tank where the line is held in place with a nylon nipple connector that keeps the line from pulling out of the tank.

The primer bulb's purpose is to PULL fresh fuel thru the fuel filter and gas line out of the tank into the carburetor, then to itself and then...PUSH any air/old fuel out to the fuel tank. If I am understanding what you say, you may be right. There are check valves in the primer bulb base that sometimes go bad and don't allow the proper flow. Check that fuel is being PULLED from the tank to the carb and that fuel/air is also being PUSHED back to the tank. Post back if need be. Sometimes (after a period of time) these carbs require a diaghram and/or rebuild kit.

I need a fuel line schematic for a WeedEater brand Featherlite Plus weedeater

Presuming the primer bulb is on top of the carb....Fuel filter line out of gas tank goes to the lower part if carburetor body. The other line (normally larger in size) coming out of the fuel tank goes to the primer bulb outlet on the top of carb.
If the primer/purge bulb is not on the carb, things are a little different. The fuel filter line out of the tank still goes directly to the carb, as the bulb will pull old fuel/air out of the carb allowing fresh fuel to flow in and pushes old fuel/air back to the fuel tank.
Fresh fuel in, old fuel out of the carb...you can hook up a piece of fuel line to the bulb and tell which one is pulling and which one is pushing..or depress it with your fingers on it...either way you can tell.

Hi,
Just a suggestion O.K?
Carefully check the small fuel lines. To and from the bulb. Make sure the bulb fills with gas.( at least two thirds full. ) There is a small fuel filter on the end of a small fuel line in the tank. A small hook of stiff wire will dig that out. Good luck !!!!

Gas leaking in a stream from other end of primer line

Something is causing the float in the carb to stick in a downward position. This float tells the carb when to cut off the flow, and stuck down it keeps the channel open for gas to flow through. Empty the gas and remove and thoroughly clean out the carb, making sure you hit the float bowl very well. Worst case the float could be bad. If cleaning it thoroughly doesn't get it, consider a carb rebuild kit from the engine manufacturer or replacing the carb.
