Question about Danby Portable Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I bought a 7000 BTU Simplicity portable air conditioner as is from Canadian Tire. It's only sold with the system unit. I don't see any hot air hose, but I also don't know where the hose would attach to the unit. Do I need to get anything extra for it to work?

The hose has an adaptor, which is recantgular in shape, that attaches to the grill in the back, right side facing. If you do not have this adaptor you would have to order it from an appliance repair depoe, as well as the hose. Good luck. Google, simplicity spac7088 owners manual and you will see what i mean. gdm1454@yahoo.ca

Remove exhaust hose

U need that hose to direct the warm air outside the area to be cooled. If you remove it, the hot exhaust will stay in the room being cooled and negate the cold air being directed into the room.

That is why regular room AC units are mounted on window sill. Cold air in, hot air out.

Why is my appartment getting cooler ???

An air conditioner really just moves heat from one place to another. Normally there is an inside unit and an outside unit, or in the case of a window unit, half is inside the room and half outside the window. In either case, it takes the heat from in the room and moves it outside. This portable unit apparently takes the heat from one room and dumps it into another. There is no magic heat elimination - it has to go somewhere.

Bonnie, sinc you didn't mention a model number, it's a little hard to help you. I did find an Owner's Manual for a Danby 7000 btu Portable AC, that may be the one you have. I have included a link to it that you can download and print for future reference. If this is not your model, contact Danby Customer Support 800-263-2629 and they can provide one to you.

AC was cooling fine. Now, won't cool room even though cool air comes out. Exhaust hose is extremely hot.

Check filter, if you have a 5000BTU unit (small) and it is extremely hot, then it wont work great for a big room. BTU is the rate of what the AC will put out. 5000 BTU is good for a small single room. 10,000 will cool a bigger room and 18,000 btu is meant to cool a home.

Danby ALSO does not cool 3 days old

Take it back where you bought it. A 12,000 BTU unit should be more than enough for a 192 square foot room, so there is some problem with the unit.

Bought Amana 7000 BTU portable air conditioner for my father and he is telling me that it's leaking all over. I thought it was a self absorbtion.

Self absorbtion means that the water is evaporated by the blower blowing air over the condensation. On very humid days there may be too much water to evaporate. There should be a drain outlet on the back and it may be blocked. Clean it if you can find it.

Hi, Go to the following website and download the manual. According to the manual, the unit "evaporates" the water and you don't have to empty anything. http://www.haieramerica.com/en/asset/product/96d890cdae
