Flashing X on TomTom

I have a new TomTom, connected it to PC USB and attempted update via TomTomHome but went wrong and now have a flashing red X. Unfortunately being new to this did not hacve a backup copy. Is it possible to format memory as in earlier solution and then download everything from TomTom web site.

Thanks to E61N for the suggestion. Problem gets worse, HOME bombs out as soon as I connect the TomTom. I tried to make manual backup as second suggestion but PC reported corrupt libaec file so no joy there.

I have the same problem. Have only just bought it and was updating the speed camera application. Now all I get is the flashing x.

Does anybody have a solution yet. I see no way of restoring it to factory settings.

Ok, most important is to backup the folde wich contains the map. After doing that, you can connect to pc, close tt home if it starts, and delete LOOSE files on units root, NOT files in any folders. Then connect to TT Home, it should then give you the software back...

I was updating my device and we had a power failure Now my device is flashing a red X and will not connect. can you help

unplug the unit and turn it off. Connect the unit to the usb again and turn it on. Once its on it should connect back to your PC. Open up tomtomhome and click manage my tomtom one. Find the tomtom one application and delete it. Then go back and check for an update, and there should be one there. Re install that update and your unit should be good to go.

Hi, The best way to update your TomTom is to download the latest TomTom Home software and install it. Once installed, attached your TomTom to the PC via USB and register it with TomTom Home. From within TomTom Home, get the latest software download and install it to your TomTom. This works for me.

Cheers

Flashing X on TomTom but cant get it off on spotlight on my mac!

Make a full backup onto your computer making sure all files are shown. Do not use tt home. Make sure you have a copy of your map in your backup. Do not format. Delete everything on your tt. Connect to tt home and tt home will reinstall the navcore for your device. Copy and paste your map from your backup onto your tt. You should be set to go. A reminder you will lose all your preferances and favorites when you do this.

Flashing x

eave on charge for two hours, then with the SD card out (if it has one) hold down the reset button at the back of unit for ten seconds and then the 'on' switch for ten seconds.
STEP 1
Connect your TomTom to your
computer via USB and open up your Windows Explorer and go to the drive. (It will be listed as TOMTOM (E) or some other drive letter).
Copy the Yellow Folders one by one to your PC. Ideally, save all the folders under a new folder that you name.
You may find that the folder ttntools and gns may not be copied. This is o.k. if they aren't.
STEP 2
Format your Tomtom via MY Computer.
STEP 3
Copy the Yellow Folders from the
backup you made in STEP 1 back to the TomTom.
STEP 4
Open TomTom Home
Click on Upate Now.
Install the latest update onto your TomTom.
Once installed, switch your TomTom off, then disconnect if from the PC.
Thats it. From now on, make a full backup using TomTom Home prior to any updates.
Also note, that copying all the files will take some time.
