First start with the needle & see if it's bent-roll the needle on a flat surface & see if it roll correctly
when a needle is blunt it makes a popping sound when it goes thru the fabric
check the bobbin to see if it's warped-I have had some that were
check to see if there is lint or loose thread in the bobbin case area
rethread the machine to make sure the upper thread is not catching on anything
sometimes the thread can come off the thread take up lever
& sometimes it can get caught on the spool pin & also on the notch that's on the thread spool it's self---I've had this happen before
if you sew alot-good maintenance practice is to clean the bobbin case area at least once a week-if you don't sew alot-once a month & also under the needle plate
when cleaning under the needle plate-make sure you do not damage the top of the screws when you remove them to clean under the needle plate & because if the top of screws get damaged they can pull the fabric when the fabric goes over them
check also to make sure your top tension is correct

Why is my thread birdnesting? i am getting some thread that bunches up under my fabric. I have played with the tension changed needles, and rethreaded both top and bottom

bunching up under the material is loose tension of the needle thread
pull the thread out before you thread the needle and if it doesn't require a small amount of effort to pull then the thread is not between the tension plates or the tension plates are not being allowed to move closer together to add the tension
check that the thread is actually between the plates and not to one side of them
full tension adjustment should make it fairly difficult to the thread by hand

What adjustment can I make to my lower looper, thread does not stay under pressor foot while sewing

thread tension can be adjusted by the small screw that holds the spring plate on the bobbin carrier under which you have to pull the thread after the bobbin is placed in the carrier
a small movement is a lot of tension adjustment
if the thread is bunching up under the material ,that will be the needle thread tension and it needs to be tightened

Thread bunching under work

Clean away all the thread.

If you look through the Singers at Relics.com you may find your machine and order a manual so you can be sure the bobbin has been threaded and is inserted correctly into the machine.

It is possible the timing has to be adjusted - you can find this at sewusa.com
