Question about Sony Televison & Video
The most common fault of all in all disc players.. the failure of the optical head unit assmebly.
You can clean the head as a last try but if not order one or my adivce is to get this replaced by Sony as if the original part will be available with them and also the replacement needs special care not to spoil the new unit( some tech. tools required and measures need)
Also the new head if bought from Sony will cost the same as getting it installed. The ones in the open market can be look alike and might not last longer.

Spindle motor in DVD mechanism require replacement, not practical to repair, just buy new one, upconverting DVD player would cost you less then repair of your old one.

usually this happens when lens cannot read the the disc. Due to few reason
1 Your disk is scratched
2 Your DVD lens is covered with dust
3 You need to replace DVD lens
Try another few CD/DVD to rectify whether there is any problem with dvd you are trying to play
if this error occurs on all the dvd you played then the most likely proble is with your DVD lens either its coverd with dust use Disk cleaner if not you got to replace a new DVD lense as per model
