I have a similar KitchenAid fridge (KTRS21KF) and a similar problem with water freezing in the bottom of the freezer and dripping into the fridge. I found that the defrost drain in the freezer was frozen solid, so the water from the defrost cycle kept backing up. I thawed it out and got the drain clear. But I don't understand why this happened in the first place or if it will happen again.

I have a similar KitchenAid fridge (KTRS22MJW)-- water freezing in the bottom of the freezer and dripping into the fridge. The defrost drain in the freezer freezes  solid, so the water from the defrost cycle keeps backing up. Every 4-6 months I thaw it out and get the drain clear. Tried wrapping a wire around the heating element and extending it down the drain hole. Still a problem. Is there a permanent fix?

I encountered the same problem. We have had this KitchenAid since Jan 2000 and it has been running ever since. This is the first time we have seen this problem. We took out the freezer drawer and the freezer bottom. Ice had built up due to the defrost drain being frozen and eventually water ran into the refrigerator compartment. We removed the ice and used a hair drier to melt the ice plug in the top of the drain line.

I assume something clogged the drain, but I'm not sure what or how something could have gotten into the drain line. It doesn't seem to be accessible from the freezer compartment unless the floor bottom is unscrewed and removed???? Any thoughts?

Your idea/plan sounds pretty good. There is a drip pan under the fridge right? it might be a good idea to run it into that. Good luck!

Why is condensation in fridge?

Good afternoon friend, thank you for your post!

I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator has moisture forming underneath the bottom panel of your freezer and that is causing water to drip onto your shelves. Would you be able to provide me with your model number that way I could research additional information for you please? You can locate your serial tag (which lists your model number) on the inside cabinet of the fresh food compartment normally on the left side of a top mount. On a side by side it can be found on the right hand side. I look forward to your response. -Matt

Water is dripping from the bottom of the fridge (slow drip). How do I fix it. I have a Maytag French Door stainless steel fridge (4-year-old) with freezer on the bottom.

There should be a drip tray catching the defrost water... it may be overfull... Try to remove it and empty it. The tray is actually supposed to have a heat evaporator to dry up the water before it overflows. Your may be fuller due to excessive frost also... from hot temperatures outside or opening the fridge too often or for too long... good luck!

Hi, I have a refurbished RFG297AARS from Samsung that we purcased as a refurb about 7 days ago. On day 1-3, a puddle of water formed under the back right underside of the fridge, without the water line...

Chances are its either the drip line or drip tray.. there is a drain to route the condensation pulled out of the fridge and freezer that leads to a drip pan underneat the unit.

Either the drip tray was not installed.. reinstalled incorrectly or the drain tube is leaking or no longer directed to it, or it's overflowing due to excess condensate.

Best of luck!

Pooling of water in fridge compartment of my Neff fridge/freezer

The defrost drain is clogged. Defrost drains usually get there clog right behind the back freezer panel. Remove this to get to the defrost drain and remove all built up ice and clear the drain and you should be fine. Hope this helps.

Water dripping from freezer onto top shelf of fridge with ice buildup back of freezer

the defroster isn't close enough to the drain to be effective. remove the back wall of the inside of the freezer, remove the excess ice. clear out the ice from the drain using hot water and a turkey baster. there is a kit from whirlpool that uses a piece of metal and a screw around the defrost rod, but I found out that a piece of 14 gauge solid core wire with the insulation stripped off works great too. stick the stripped wire into the drain, 2 to 3 inches, and wrap the rest around the defrost rod.

Water leaking from top to bottom

Refrigerators typically have vents for COLD freezer air to travel to the refrigerator side. Make sure you do not have these blocked with frozen foods, or ice. A good defrost of the freezer may be in order. (I just went through this one week ago).
If the cold air does not travel down to the fridge to keep it above dewpoint, moisture begins to form quickly.

Water leaks from inside refrigerator

could be ice is forming at the vents already.

even though it is a frost less refrigerator, in some instances, you may want to defrost it manually or leave the door open for 1 day just to be sure that every ice in the fridge has melted. then plug it back in and observe it.

Overflowing drip pan under the fridge

for reallybsq
problem could be door seals not sealing completely and hence excessive ice formed on evaporator and excess water when it melts. however, i have found this problem many times with large larder fridges and really found no cure.

for guest.
towards the bottom of the back wall, there is a gulley with a drain hole in the middle. this drain is blocked. clear it with something flexible and make sure water flows away freely

We were able to fix the freezer water leak. We unscrewed the false freezer floor and the inside back panel. Ice had accumulated on the freezer floor and the defrosting drain was frozen. We removed the ice by using a blow dryer then poured boiling hot water onto the frozen drain hole. The frozen water in the drain pipe hole eventually melted and the water released into the defrosting drip pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. Problem solved. We no longer have water leaking into the refrigerator.
