Try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
good luck

The first screen (start windows normally etc) appears because the computer ahs not shut down normally before. Since you choose to start windows (normally or last known...) and the Windows logo comes up with the loading bar, this means that the computer is starting to boot. Some hardware or software (windows) problem appears and the boot never ends. Possible reasons: motherboard failure or hard disk failure. A good idea is to re-install windows to check the results. Mention that in case of reinstalling the windows, during the procedure choose to reformat the hard disk so it will be checked for errors and reported.

Black screen right after dell logo

start tapping f8 after you boot the machine, when given the boot menu, try to load safe mode, and see if it loads. if it does, then you need to do a system restore back to before you got the black screen. more than likely windows loaded an updated driver that disagrees with your system. try that and let me know what happens :)

Hello I wonder if you can help. When we switch

Had a similar problem like this several times. Try choosing safe mode. Safe mode will load the required drivers. After safe mode finishes the loading process, restart your computer and choose to start windows normally. The problem you mention usually happens when the computer is turned off without using normal shut down procedures. Also happens when you have a sudden power outage.

Windows starts to set up then screen goes black and

sounds like you have a heating problem I need More information to help you, try pulling the side off the pc and blow off the cpu fan with compressed air for a computer store also blow out the monitor as best you can, next start up the computer but go into safe mode by pressing F8 before windows loads load without networking if it works there and does not turn off you have a driver problem after performing the first two suggestions if it stays on reboot hit F8 again before windows loads and click load in safe mode with networking then go to Microsoft's help page it's http://www.microsoft.safety.clean and run their cleaner if it detects a bug remove them then go to microsoft support and download the latest drivers next defrag the computer in safe mode then go to www.drivers.com and run scan for driver updates there it will give you a list of out of date drivers for your entire computer save the screen in word by using the ctrl V and ctrl p and then reboot normally and if windows stays on go to the driver site and down load all the latest drivers, next go to male-ware bytes and download their free trial software and run a scan on your computer. The latest virus has did ansi bombs with Delaware and worms and has killed your monitor drivers once you run the male-ware and remove the virus's and worms reboot to safe mode do disk cleanup and then do disk defrag in safe mode. good luck.

The screen turns black and stays like that

Normally it's because the resolution is set too high for the monitor. This has happened to me when I switch a computer from a flat screen to a old "biggy-size" monitor.

try rebooting the computer and BEFORE you see the windows splash screen, start pushing the F8 key...this should bring up a menu...select VGA Mode...it won't be pretty, but once you're in..right click on the desktop and change the solution (try 800x600). restart the machine...that should work.

Blank/Black Screen Asus PC 4G

When you first turn on the computer, start tapping the F8 key to bring up the safe mode screen. You have a very short window in which to press the F8 key before XP loads, so it is possible to miss it. If this happens, just restart it and try it again. Once you are on the safe mode screen, select the enable VGA mode. This will boot your computer to a default 640 x 480 resolution so you can change it back to normal.

Thanks and please don't forget to give this solution a fixya rating.

Problem restarting, "press r"

  1. Start the laptop
  2. when the logo screen turns black start pressing F8 a few times.
  3. A Windows Boot Options screen should show on the screen
  4. If you see the Windows Logo (the normal thing when Windows loads, then press reset and try again
  5. At the Windows Boot Options screen select "Last known good configuration" and press Enter twice
It "should" now load normally, if not then..
  1. Replace step 5 above with "Safe Mode" and see if that loads all the way through. If so, then restart and see if its OK now.
If not, then post back with any error messages and we can look at something else.

Screen goes black with white horizontal line.

WHEN does this problem occur? Does it ONLY happen after the computer loads Windows (or another OS), or does it happen as soon as you turn the monitor on? We really need more information before we can provide specific advice or suggestions... IF this happens as soon as you turn the monitor on, switch it with a different monitor. If the problem goes away, the original monitor is defective, and probably not worth the cost of repairing it. If the problem ONLY happens after you load Windows, boot the system into Safe Mode (press the F8 key during bootup until you see the menu which allows you to select Safe Mode), then reboot and see if the problem has been resolved; simply booting into Safe Mode, then rebooting the system into Windows MIGHT solve this WITHOUT requiring you to change any system settings... IF the problem remains in Windows AFTER you've booted into Safe Mode AND rebooted back to Windows, the videocard driver might be corrupted. In that case, you'll have to reinstall the vidcard driver to correct this problem... If all else fails, it IS possible that the videocard itself is defective; if installing an updated driver doesn't work, try swapping the videocard with a different one. BE SURE to uninstall the OLD videodriver, and install the proper one for the new videocard; if you don't install the correct driver, you could create MORE problems than you have right now...
