Question about Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera

Xti download to pc

Having used a rebel for a couple of years, I attempted to connect my new xti to my pc thinking pix would download before loading the EOS Solution Disk (dumb). with xti on, pc saw new hardware, then mouse froze. had to shut down pc, disconnect xti. rebooted and installed EOS Digital Solution Disk v16.1 that came with camera. restarted after software install. with xti connected and on, I cannot mouse over and select 'Starts to download images" ... the only selection that I can open is 'Monitor Folder'. have since done another uninstall and reload of software. problem remains, I can only select 'Monitor Folder' on EOS Utility menu. images are still visible on the CF card thru camera LCD. thanks! thanks. did the uninstall. reinstall. connect to new port. same problem...cannot roll over on menu items and have them highlight with exception of Monitor Folder. thru Explore, located camera, downloaded pix to a folder. did notice that there were no subfolders on the CF card, only images. removed camera. did reformat of CF in camera. took more shots. connected and same problem...mouse does not highlight on 'Starts to download', only Monitor Folder. I doubt it's the software as the mouse highlights between 'control camera' and 'accessories' in Utility window. any other thoughts?

Hi,

Give it another try of reinstalling the software but this time make sure you don't connect the canera to your pc untill you finish the complete installation.
just insert the disc finish your installation and then plug in the cam.And another thing connect it to a different USB port not the one which you used to connect before..

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution.

Did it work previuosly?I believe the fault can be with your PC itself.
Do one thing try it on another PC and see if everuthingworks fine.If everything is ok with the other PC then take a backup of all the important files on your PC and do a system restore.Doing this will restore the settings back to a previous time.System restore will delete all the data so thats why make sure you take the backup..

    To do a system restore:
    START>PROGRAMS>ALL ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>SYSTEM RESTORE

Please don't forget to rate or accept the solution..

Try doing a system restore to yesterday and then try installing the disk again.

You can do the restore from control panel and inside "Performance and Maintenance"

Please let me know it this still doesn't work and we can go from there in finding a way.

thanks

How do you get to the video mode on the canon 400d rebel xti

There is no video mode on the Xti. The first Canon Digital Rebel to be equipped with video was the T1i, which came out almost 5 years later (2 years ago).

I own a Canon EOS Rebel XTi. This camera is unpredictable; i.e., I never know when it will decide not to record an image. I have reset it many times to the manufacturer's default settings, and then it...

Okay at least the memory card isn't locked or it wouldn't be taking any pictures. Couple things one is did your format the memory card before using it? Do you format the memory card after downloading pictures to the computer? Do you just unplug the USB cable or remove the memory card from a card reader before doing a safe disconnect? What I believe is that you delete and delete and delete pictures from the card and it's not corrupted with a lot of useless data residue. Short answer to your problem is format the memory card in the camera you intend to use it in. Have a great day

Can I set a Canon EOS Rebel XTi up so that the picture I am taking shows up in the LCD?

No. You require a feature called live view and your camera doesn't have it. It's technically difficult to achieve on dSLR's and it's only a couple of years ago that it started to appear on some models.

Canon Rebel XTi not recognized when plugged into usb

Vista is your problem. Solution...buy an inexpensive card reader to download your pics to a folder you create on your desktop. From there, you can send the pics to your photo editing software.

EOS Utility does not recoganize Canon Rebel Xti

I believe there are 2 modes of usb transfer that you can pick in the camera. They are set somewhere in the menu in the options. If you go through the menus thoroughly you'll find it. One option is for connecting the camera directly to a printer and the other is for computer transfer (there might also be an Auto setting but I don't remember for sure). Make sure that setting is set for computer transfer. If that doesn't fix your problem, re-install or update EOS Utility / ZoomBrowser.

LCD screen not working

You will be pleased to hear there is nothing wrong with your camera, that's the way it is I'm afraid, there is no live preview on most dSLR's except the most recent, most expensive models..

It took me a while to get used to the idea after using compacts for a few years, but we were quite happy with the viewfinders on our film SLR's...

Happy snappin

Missing Photos Canon Rebel XTi

You can actually still keep taking photos with your camera without loosing the images. The XTi will never delete the images off a card unless you press the trashcan key and tell it to "delete all".

It's always good practice in these situations to have a memory card reader handy. You can pick up a compact flash reader for your XTi for about $14 at BestBuy or many other retaillers.

But to answer your question: Use the ZoomBrowser EX software that came with the camera. If your Picasa is set to automatically connect and download every time the camera is connected - temporarily disable it. That way it wont inturrupt Canon's software (which I prefer).
