Having used a rebel for a couple of years, I attempted to connect my new xti to my pc thinking pix would download before loading the EOS Solution Disk (dumb). with xti on, pc saw new hardware, then mouse froze. had to shut down pc, disconnect xti. rebooted and installed EOS Digital Solution Disk v16.1 that came with camera. restarted after software install. with xti connected and on, I cannot mouse over and select 'Starts to download images" ... the only selection that I can open is 'Monitor Folder'. have since done another uninstall and reload of software. problem remains, I can only select 'Monitor Folder' on EOS Utility menu. images are still visible on the CF card thru camera LCD. thanks! Bud

Re: xti download to pc
Give it another try of reinstalling the software but this time make sure you don't connect the canera to your pc untill you finish the complete installation.
just insert the disc finish your installation and then plug in the cam.And another thing connect it to a different USB port not the one which you used to connect before..

Okay at least the memory card isn't locked or it wouldn't be taking any pictures. Couple things one is did your format the memory card before using it? Do you format the memory card after downloading pictures to the computer? Do you just unplug the USB cable or remove the memory card from a card reader before doing a safe disconnect? What I believe is that you delete and delete and delete pictures from the card and it's not corrupted with a lot of useless data residue. Short answer to your problem is format the memory card in the camera you intend to use it in. Have a great day
No. You require a feature called live view and your camera doesn't have it. It's technically difficult to achieve on dSLR's and it's only a couple of years ago that it started to appear on some models.
I believe there are 2 modes of usb transfer that you can pick in the camera. They are set somewhere in the menu in the options. If you go through the menus thoroughly you'll find it. One option is for connecting the camera directly to a printer and the other is for computer transfer (there might also be an Auto setting but I don't remember for sure). Make sure that setting is set for computer transfer. If that doesn't fix your problem, re-install or update EOS Utility / ZoomBrowser.
You can actually still keep taking photos with your camera without loosing the images. The XTi will never delete the images off a card unless you press the trashcan key and tell it to "delete all".
It's always good practice in these situations to have a memory card reader handy. You can pick up a compact flash reader for your XTi for about $14 at BestBuy or many other retaillers.
But to answer your question: Use the ZoomBrowser EX software that came with the camera. If your Picasa is set to automatically connect and download every time the camera is connected - temporarily disable it. That way it wont inturrupt Canon's software (which I prefer).
