Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Igniters My model Spectra XL44 igniters spark but it takes forever to light the top burners. I've cleaned all the caps but it doesn't seem to help. The oven lights much quicker so I don't believe it's a gas flow problem.

Check the part under the caps those grooves should all be clean too. also many units have a little hole right there by the igniter that gas goes through. a paper clip or needle will clear this out.

Xl44 top burners light

There are a few things that can do this... First check the burner top to make sure the holes are not blocked. 2nd, Are the other ignitors sparking? If so then try rotating the slack in the burners left and right - this works sometimes. If not then try placing a screwdriver (you holding the handle only) and touch the burner and lean the screwdriver towards the ignitor... making the spark gap smaller. If you have used the ignition without a burner in place the ignition pack will short out inside it and there will not be a spark until the gap is very small. 3rd, are the ceramic part of the ignitors cracked at the base... take care when washing as they break easy if caught on the cloth. The ignition pack works in pairs so having one work suggests the pair of this one is something in the lead if there is no spark... A huge spillover causing a short or a bad earth... check the burners are firmly in place. There is more but too much detail to post here. Good luck

I have a GE Spectra XL44. I can not light the front two burners. I can see a spark coming from the burners and I can smell the gas however no flame. The rear burners work with not problem and the oven...

The range or cooktop ignitor works in the same way as a car spark plug. High voltage is supplied to the center electrode and it arcs to ground. If the ground, burner cap, has grease or grit on it then it will inhibit the spark and cause the symptoms you are seeing. Pull the cap off, inspect the ignitors for any cracks. If no cracks, look to where the arc is going to - the exact location. Clean thoroughly with scotchbrite pad. If this doesn't fix the problem, you may have to call tech to replace ignitors. Cleaning fixes most of these problems. Hope this helps,

Ge Spectra Xl44-three of 4 gas burners will not ignite without a match.

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter. A good “blue” arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.

How do i light the oven pilot on a ge xl44?

MOST modern appliances that use gas ignition (including dryers) no longer have a pilot light. These appliances are now equipped with a burner assembly with electronic igniters. The following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work and how to access the them on a gas range:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

If you are having ignition problems with one of the oven manifolds (bake or broil), it may be a simple matter of a weak or bad igniter. If BOTH manifolds are experiencing the same problem, you may have a bad regulator or electronic oven control (EOC) board. The EOC controls all your oven features.

The surface burners use an electrode type igniter for ignition. There is one mounted next to each surface burner assembly. They get their electric source from a spark module. If none of the surface igniters are working, you may have a bad spark module. If one single burner is not igniting, the problem is probably the electrode.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Include your complete model number if it is different from the one you posted this question under. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Getting to the Pilot

Your model JGBP28DED2WH uses spark ignition on the stove top burners, and a glow bar ignitor, part number WB2X9154 for the oven and broiler. To get to the bake ignitor if oven will not light: Take the racks out of the oven. Remove oven floor by removing two screws at back of oven floor and lifting floor. Remove the square metal flame spreader to get to the burner / ignitor assembly. (note: The ignitor may still glow when you try it, but usually is still the problem)

Ge spectra gas stove top not lighting

If your top burners are not lighting or will not work, it is possible that the burners have become dirty or wet. Please follow the troubleshooting directions below before calling service:
  1. Turn you burner to the Lite position:

If you hear clicking or sparking, go to Step 2.

If you do not, check your circuit breakers. If the circuit breaker is ok, we recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

  2. Clean the burner and electrode:

First remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Use a needle or paper clip to poke through the holes on the burner head. Re-assemble and try the burner.

Remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Even if it looks clean, wipe the tip of the electrode with a clean, dry paper towel and PRESS IT DOWN. Re-assemble and try the burner, again.

Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 3.

  3. Re-assemble - Make sure that each burner top matches its burner bottom. The burner top will lay flat if put on correctly.

Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 4.

  4. The spark igniter is operating properly, but the burner is still not lighting. At this point, we would recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

Burners won't light

Hi there,

Sounds like an igniter problem. Sometimes the tips of the igniters burn and don't give out the spark to light the burners. Check for a spark from the igniter on the front burners. Also sometimes the igniters drop down a little - may just need re-positioning. Compare the front igniters with the back to see how they should spark. You may need to replace the front igniters. Hope this helps.

Regards
Bryan
