Have a Dell PowerEdge 2500 that I am relegating to the garage office. I need to connect it to our wireless network through a wireless pci adapter. I am getting an error code that the wireless switch is turned off. No clue as where to turn it on. THANX

First and foremost thank you for accepting my bid, I am incredibly greatful.

Now, the wireless "Switch" could be on your wireless router. It should show as a blue or green light. If the light for "Connection" or the satelite symbol is yellow, red, or orange, this means it is disconnected from internet access. There will be a Standby or Satellite button somewhere on the wireless router. Push it once, it should change colors. If it does, try to connect to the internet again.

If it is blue, lights are binking on the "Connectivity" area, and your wireless router is connected to your modem, then the problem lies with the PCI card. The problem being, it should not have a power switch for on/off. The card should be in full functioning service as long as it is in your machine. Try to uninstall ALL drivers, software, etc for the device and restart your machine. From this point go to the PCI card's manufacturer and download the DRIVER ONLY! See if this works.

Please, do no feel hesitant to contact me for further help. You have payed for my services and I am determined to stay with you until this problem is fixed. If you cannot reach me here, please contact me VIA email at: Mike.Kirkpatrick333@gmail.com

Hope this helps!!!

Have you installed properly the wireless pci adapter in your dell. you could check from device manager first and make sure it is listed under network adapters and has no yellow exclamation mark. also check the range of you wireless network router. If you don't manage the access point or network, contact the network administrator to Make sure the router or access point is turned on and that the wireless signal light is illuminated. post back for follow up.

If you have a PCI slot open and the correct drivers for your OS then, yes, it looks like it should work. Network cards are usually pretty easy to install; I don't ever recall having a problem with one as long as they were in the right slot and I had the right drivers (they should come with the card). Graphics cards can be Hell on Earth but network cards are usually pretty straight forward.

Connection wireless adapter to laptop dell

Open up PC, Plug it wireless network into a PCI slot, turn on PC, the network device will be recognized and ask for drivers, you insert the CD/DVD that came with it, or use the software you downloaded from Belkin web site and install the WiFi card.. Run the Belkin software and it is installed. reboot PC, put case side back on.

Dell Inspiron ethernet card plug bad, either send tower to Dell for 3 weeks or replace and bypass with new ethernet card PCI, any problems with doing this?

There should not be any problem with you buying your own PCI ethernet card and install it yourself. They are not that expensive. www.newegg.com has on for only $7.99 and it will work fine in your computer. It does not need to be from Dell.

TrueMobile won't connect to my network

Over the past few months I have seem more of this issue. I am beginning to think that there may be Microsoft updates that could be conflicting with the wireless network adapter config. But this is only a speculation.

In the mean time, you may have a faulty wireless card. If the unit is under warranty, have Dell replace it. If not, you could disable the internal one and purchase a Linksys Wireless G or N USB adapter from Staples....just to rule it out.

Adding a computer to wireless at home

1) Go to the computer that is connected directly to the Linksys router.

2) Open up Internet Explorer (or your favorite browser).

3) In the address bar, where it says "http://www...." clear out everything in there and type in the following numbers:

192.168.1.1

Press "enter" on your keyboard. This will open up a dialog box asking for your username and password. Try leaving the username blank, and type in "admin" for the password.

Now you're in a web page that controls your router. Look for the Wireless section, and make sure wireless is enabled. Check for wireless security as well, because you may need to enter a long number in your computer once it finds the router.

If you still need more help, feel free to ask.

My laptop cannot connect to my local network (LAN)

Assuming you initially set up the router using the wired lan adapter and lead, enabled DHCP in the settings. First stand right next to your router; Dells wireless is a little tempremental, go to control panel and in there should be Dell wireless monitor, open this up refresh it and see if it finds any wireless networks, if so try to connect. Dissable your wired network lan adapter. Go to the properties of your wireless card and on the TCP/IP line click properties again and ensure that obtain an ip address automatically is selected, press ok and restart the pc.
