Question about Nikon Coolpix 8800 Digital Camera

1 Answer

It won't take the photo

Everything works on the camera but suddenly it fails to take the photo.

Literally everything works, the zoom, the flash pops up, it autofocuses and gives me a green light.

But nothing happens next. There's no photo taken.

I've tried the reset option on the menu and all the possible configurations, but no photo.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,
David.

    Hello Mark.

I tried two different memory cards and changed the battery.

    The camera will still focus.

I asked at the camera store where I bought it and they suggested taking it directly to Nikon (who are local). The camera store said it was likely the sensor. I should hear back from Nikon tomorrow.

Is there a memory card in the camera and has it been formatted? Did you focus on something by pressing the shutter halfway? Common photographers problem too is forgetting to remove the lens cap. Baarring anything obvious, take it to a reputable camera shop, If theres nothing wrong with it, most likely they wone charge you anything.

The flash is not working on my Fuji FinePix F402 Digital Camera

If the flash is faulty, it will most likely be to expensive to repair. You can still use the camera, though. Indoor photos will be to dark unless you turn off the flash. Cycle through the flash modes untill you get the Suppressed Flash symbol. Flash mode button is next to the zoom button. Watch out for camera shake when shooting indoor without flash.

Zoom will not retract

I took the camera apart, painstakingly removing all the screws. Within the zoom area were two small loose pieces, one appeared to be a lens, the other a thin metal cover. I placed the parts back into their place, and put all the screws back, except for the case. When I did a test to see if everything would work..... Eureka !!! No, sorry, Darn!
The camera appears to be at the same status, turns on long enough to see the "For Service...." message pop on the screen, then the camera powers off.
I will be taking the camera apart again, and will use a meter to check connections.
Will report back if there is further progress on this situation.

the light you see is af-assist beam, red eye reduction lamp and a self-timer lamp so it sounds to me that your camera is stuck in the zoom or housing where the lens retract or extents. it may not be able to return to its start position. I hope this has help Jerry

Why won't my Cyber-Shot DCS-P31 take pictures?

Actually, try manually turning off the flash and taking a picture. If the shutter works and takes a picture, then suspect that your flash is burned out. Unfortunately it's not a simple task to change a burned out flash tube.

Sony DSC-P72 close up photos

A common problem is that you have some 3.2 Megapixel (MP) and that image is all of 640x480 or 0.3072 M. That means you could move back from the camera, shoot at 3.2 MP then crop out a 640x480 image that may be in focus.
