My Sony Walkman MP3 Player NWZ-B142F not visible on my desktop when connected through usb. But it shows as it is getting charged

Hello,

When your MP3 is connected to the PC.
Click start -> Right-click 'My Computer' -> Properties -> Device Manager and your MP3 may show up with a yellow exclamation mark next to it on this window. Right click it and select 'Update Drivers'. Click next, Tick the option 'Let me choose driver...' then choose USB Mass Storage Device and click next and it should work.

Other than that try opening Windows Media Player, if you don't have it installed you can download it here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/windows-media-player

It might show up in there.

My machine seems to slow down alot what can I do to fix this?

Delete the temporary files form the computer. To do so Click Start-> Run-> type %temp%-> hit enter. Select everything and delete it.

Same way delete the temporary files from windows well. Click My computer-> Local Disk-> Windows-> temp

Also delete prefatch under windows. ClickMy computer-> Local Disk-> Windows-> prefatch.

Try to restart your computer everyday and not just log it off.

Try and see if this works.

How to download music

The best way is to use Cd's you already have or Cd's you buy. Use windows Media Player it is the easiest to use. To use Media Player, Start the program and looking at the top of the program, if the classic menu's are not showing - right click out next to the heading, "Media Player", then -> chose view -> then -> click on Classic Menus. This will show the menus that are easier to access. Now go to -> Tools -> Options; And here, click on the Rip Music tab. This is where you set up media player to rip music down into a MP3 and then where to put it when done. So on this tab you will see Rip music to this location, Click the pull down and pick a folder you can find easy -(go to my computer, right click My computer and chose -> Explore -> you will see on the left side the folder tree, click on the ( C:\ ) at the top and open up the tree, then right click the( C:\ ) move to the menu at the top and chose -> New -> then Folder - then name your folder " AAA " it will always be at the top of the tree - easy to find), Tell media player to put your MP3's here, then move down on the RIP MUSIC Tab to the FORMAT section and pull down menu and chose MP3 => chose to rip when CD is inserted. Click OK and close the Tools Menu, Close the Program. Now Hook up your player, go to My computer right click on the START menu, look at the folder tree and scroll down to the bottom and see if your player is there. Next insert a CD into the drive and when a window pops up asking what to do chose to RIP WITH MEDIA PLAYER. Once Media Player has finished riping the CD, Go to your folder and Copy the MP3's into your player's Music folder - one at the time or as a group. Now you should be able to un-hook your player and enjoy you new music. Now if you want to download MP3's from Wal-mart or iTunes you need to change the mode of your player. See this tip posted here.Solve your MP3 Player Connection Problem. if you do buy and download mp3's from some Web site you will have to deal with the song's license or DRM media. These license can get lost, I have lost many. If you ever have to reinstall or have a problem with your computer they can get lost, where CD's Ripped to mp3's do not. If Media Player does not tag the files for you, you can tag the files yourself in My Computer Explorer -> right click the file chose properties and then the summary tab -> click out next to the right of the name and type in the info. So you can tag the file.

How to fine a file once it is downloaded on the

Windows has a 'Search' facility that allows you to find a file whose name include part of the file name(s):
- In Windows XP, the ''Search" facility is available via the (Player) drive context menu (Right Mouse Click) or via 'Start' menu -> Search.
- In Vista or Windows 7, 'Open Windows Explorer' -> enter part of the file(s) to be found in the Top Right Hand 'Search ' box which will immediately start a search on ALL DRIVES under 'Computer'
- If you type .mp3 , it will locate ALL files that contains .mp3 suffix.
ps. Next time you download the a file (which by default WILL NOT BE ON YOUR PLAYER unless you change the 'options' default drive/folder of course), take note to which drive/folder you are downloading it.

Help needed !!! opened Windown media center earlier today, and now even with all applications shut down, the file wmpnetwk.exe is constantly using ~ 50% of my CPU. I Have ended the process with task...

Wmpnetwk.exe is a media player network sharing service. It is annoying and useless(as you have already noticed).
Click start->Run->Type in "services.msc"(without the quotes). Then click on the services tab, and uncheck the box next to wmpnetwk.exe. Click apply, close the configuration utility and reboot your computer. If you ever want to start the media sharing service again you can start it from windows media player.

Hope this helps,
Sai.

XP System runs very slow

Hi, You can try the following steps. One cleaning the startup file and running a disk cleanup. The programs running in the background at the time windows starts can slow the system down.
1. click on start >Click run 2. Type msconfig 3. You would get the system properties box 4. click on the tab that says startup 5. Click on the tab that says disable all click apply and restart your computer.
Once the system is back up. Click on start>all programs>accessories>system tools>disk clean up Note: it may take some time to clean the system. Do back up important documents if any. Though you would not loose any important information form the computer.
Thanks for using fixya proton
