Question about Sony Walkman NW-A808 MP3 Player

1 Answer

My Sony MP3 player went for a swim

My Sony MP3 player went in our lake when I went in after my wife who had fallen in. I know, sounds like a fib, but it's true.

Now it does nothing. I have taken it apart, dried it out, nothing.

Can it be repaired?

Hi musolfmj,

Sorry to hear about your MP3 player. Water is the bane of electronics for a variety of reasons:

First, it conducts electricity, so if the MP3 player was turned on or even if it was turned off and had charged batteries installed when the unit was submersed, it is likely that one or more electronic components within the unit will have shorted out

Secondly water can get absorbed into some of the components of the unit, ruining them. Many electronic components, such as capacitors, are made of carbon and can absorb liquid. Even if these components didn't short out, if they came into contact with liquid they are likely ruined.

Lastly, water carries a lot of dirt and contaminants. Even after the water dries, this grime is left behind on the delicate components within the MP3 player and can likewise cause failures.

Now that said, it is possible that the unit *might* still be repairable, depending on how long it was in the water, whether you immediately removed the batteries to prevent shorting after retrieving it, and how thoroughly the unit was dried out before you attempted to power it back on.

My guess, however, is that even if the unit is repairable, the amount of work required to get it working again will probably make such a repair uneconomical. Sony or your local consumer electronics store (such as Best Buy™) can provide you with an estimate on repairs if you wish to go that route. In my opinion, you are probably going to be better off replacing the item, though.

Best regards,
Ken

By mistake i had drop my ipod in water and now its not working. does sony will repair it at some cost

Once a device has fallen into water and the battery stays powered it can damage the delicate circuit within the unit. So it is best to remove the battery at the earliest and try to clean and dry.
please check with a Sony dealer for estimate after you try these tips:

One earpiece is sounding scratchy

Typically the Swimp3 player sounds great right out of the package. In fact we've had many customers who have used it successfully for years. Like all electronics though, sometimes there is simply a problem.

Your new player is backed by the manufacturer's 90 day warranty. You can contact the store or website for an exchange or contact Finis directly to get a warranty replacement. http://www.finisinc.com/Contact/

Have fun swimming to your favorite music with your Swimp3 mp3 player.

Hi Im having trouble editing what goe on my mp3 player. I have a bunch of music but I also have stills and movies my wife put on the computer

Hello,

There's support from Sony on next page, first select your country:
http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/

When selecting U.K. this support site appears:
http://support.sony-europe.com/index.aspx?site=odw_en_GB

Next select the model you are connecting: when entered, the corresponding software for your player will show up for download.

  • Selecting the matching software and looking in the manual for the required file formats will give the best result for the device.

There is also a general site for mp3 player software, see:
